Front page story on Pentagon attack titled 'This is on the Scale of Pearl Harbor'...

Lead editorial titled simply, "WAR"..."It has been 60 years since the U,S. homeland sustained an aggression of this magnitude. The country responded then without panic but with an iron determination to defend itself and punish the aggressors. the response today must be as decisive - to the mass murderes who carried out the attack, and to any nation or nations that gave them shelter and encouragement....But if this assault originated overseas it is not a question for law enforcement. It is an act of war, and must be treated as such."

"I am eagerly awaiting this same declaration from our President tonight." If there is someone or country to declare war against, and Bush wants war then he should ask Congress to declare it.

What I meant was that President Bush should have made it plain in his speech tonight that WAR WAS DECLARED ON US today, by these terrorists. Every other official all day kept throwing the question off on the President, saying it was up to him to say whether or not what happened was an ACT OF WAR. He didn't.

It has been 60 years since the U,S. homeland sustained an aggression of this magnitude.

It's even worse than that. Pearl Harbor wasn't nearly this bad. The Civil War doesn't count because both sides were made up of Americans, and the War of 1812 wasn't aggression on the part of the English because we started it(stupidly, BTW). You have to go all the way back to the Revolutionary War.

I agree with you.

Congress has consistently given up it's power to the the executive branch. Now it is assumed, by the media mostly, that the president is de-facto dictator-king.

The Pearl Harbor attack killed about 2000 people.

Source? One of the talking heads-- Gingrich?-- mentioned a number in the hundreds, if memory serves. That seems low, as does 2000 from the epic scar it left.

Has anyone considered, China gets to see how our emergency/war response works?

Or, maybe it was the taliban and the palies - a group of filthy terrorist murderers. By George, I do believe that's it!

Do you remember the last person to declare war on the United States?

He was a fat tin plated dictator of Panama who got up in front of his National Assembly on 15 Dec 1989 and “Declared War on the United States”.

George Bush, the Senior, took him at his word. Five nights later we took Panama away from Manuel Noriega.

I wonder????

You know this seems like a hell of a price to pay so that our Israeli "friends" can hang on to their "settlements" in the occupied Palestinian territories. I don't know about you, but I'm starting to think we should take another look at our relationship with our (so called) best Middle East Friends.

Since you are new to FR today, I'll tell you that we know how to look at all your past posts. What kind of relationship do YOU have with Israel if you support other countries over there?

The Pearl Harbor attack killed about 2000 people. The New York attack may have killed 5 times that many.

Or more than that.

My thoughts exactly. I've wondered and said outloud, "What's next." I feel that this is not over, somebody has an alternate plan and I fear it may be even more horrible.
