William Cohen just spoke on CNN via telephone and said some scary things

I can roughly quote William Cohen from his live interview on CNN within the last 10 minutes: "We are going to have to make some tough decisions in this country. We are going to have to "garbled" when making choices between security and civil liberties."

It is not scary to have my luggage search but in the Washington DC airports I see more middle eastern looking people than white people with security passes to the locked doors.

Revelation 12:17
17. Then the dragon was enraged at the woman and went off to make war against the rest of her offspring--those who obey God's commandments and hold to the testimony of Jesus.

When I was growning up, you could get on a plane as a passenger without having luggage or your personal things checked ... But today, would you even get on a plane that did not check?

Of course I would, because I would be, as I was back then, armed and competent in use.

How many thousands would be alive now had there been anyone on any of those three airplanes capable of offering a competent resistance?

I don't know the point of your post, but if it is to say that we should embrace the suspension of even a single liberty over this, then I have to say that I'd rather chance being one of 10,000 killed by terrorists.

It is the restriction of our liberties, and the extra-constitutional activities of the federal government that brought this tragedy upon us.

I pray that America does not take it's usual course and learn all the wrong lessons from this horrible act.

Years ago in the USMC we used to say, "Nuke 'em All and let God sort 'em out.

I remember it as "Nuke 'em till they glow and shoot 'em the dark!"

I don't know the point of your post

Simply to try to correct what I perceive to be an out-of-balanced focus on "How does this affect me?" which seems to be the favorite post of a large portion of the people here.

Yeah, 10000 people died, but dadgummit they better not search my bags at the airport. Whatever. Let's chill out for a few days. Take some time to grieve (and carpet bomb large portions of the Middle East - it's very therapeutic I hear).

Well, consider this: When I was growning up, you could get on a plane as a passenger without having luggage or your personal things checked ... But today, would you even get on a plane that did not check? We DO give up some freedoms for security.

When you buy an airline ticket, you enter into a contract with the airline. You voluntarily consent to a search because it protects your security and the security of the other passengers. No rights are being taken from you.

Qu'est-ce que c'est? You are somehow suggesting that this attack is the fault of the federal government? I submit, ever so humbly, that it is the fault of some Islamic nut jobs who think that Allah wants dead Americans. But, you could be right. I'm sure the government's WOD played a role somehow. Start a thread. Be a hero.

Actually, President Carter was the one most responsible for the destruction of HUMINT capabilities in our intelligence services. The chickens are now coming home to roost, so to speak!

Yeah, but you won't see See B.S. reporting it.

At least Clinton and Cohen didn't promise pie in the sky for the military.

Maybe not, but it was their policies and politics on our national security that would allow a tragedy like this to happen in the first place. We had no such thing as 'national security' with Clinton. In fact, we handed away so much, our enemies know exactly how vulnerable we are and where, and today they acted on that knowledge.

"We are going to have to make some tough decisions in this country. We are going to have to "garbled" when making choices between security and civil liberties."

Then let President Bush declare a national emergency and be the first to jail Cohen's sorry ass for treason. Liberty is NOT a choice. It is a RIGHT.

Do you think any of the 10,000 victims did anything recently to piss off an Moslem extremist group?

I don't.

But I do think our foreign policy has brought an awful lot of harm to Moslems worldwide, over recent years, so yes, I do think the federal government is at least a negligent contributor to the tragedy.

You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say may be used against you in the court of public opinion where you will be beaten with your own soap box.

I am near the end of "Atlas Shrugged" and a quote of John Galt's is very appropriate. "A sacrifice is the surrender of a value."

Our values are our liberties. Not one American has to make any sacrifices here. Helping your fellow man is not a sacrifice.... Giving up your liberties is. There should be no sacrifice as long as anyone that stands against us cheers! This is our legacy and no coward should take that away.

We shouldn't let them.

The price of oil went to $32/barrel today. It will likely make it to $38 or higher before it starts down again. Bin Laden has oil and so do the Arabs promoting terrorist training. They have made themselves a lot richer by their stooge's actions today. Want to hurt the Arab leaders with their own avarice?... Pump and use our own oil. Stop building their supply of black blood money.

I don't know what nations or people are responsible for the terrible events of this day. I do know a lot about Saudi Arabia and I do know they had nothing to do with this attack.

That's the last thing I wanted to see!.  The Congress
and The Senate standing there holding hands and
singing "God Bless America"   I guess next they'll
sing "Kum ba yah"

I want to see some Senators tell the world  what we
intend to do to retaliate!  I don't want our leaders to
show our enemies a weak pathetic songfest!
