"In step with Bush's courtship of Catholic voters, Cardinal Roger Mahony, the archbishop of Los Angeles, was at the president's table. (Expletive deleted) Of ALL the UN-CATHOLIC Catholics in this country, why did he have to invite this miserable heretic??? Grrrrrr!!

I haven't heard of this Roger Mahoney? Can you clarify?

Life must be pretty good if the Times is reduced to criticizing the table settings. My bet is that the folks who were at the dinner know exactly how to maneuver through the flatware. Oooohhh--maybe THAT'S why the press weren't invited! The President didn't want them embarassed by their own lack of manners!

I was raised in a monarchy - my mother's reign. She was adament about proper table settings and I believe you are correct, when in doubt, start from the outside moving in toward the plate. My dining room table is set, as we speak, with three forks, two spoons, and two knives. My children think I'm nuts, and I suspect they are correct.
I am certain that Mrs. Bush was a perfect hostess and I would have loved to have attended.

These people need to go to an OLD BOOKS store and find a vintage copy of Emily Post or Amy Vanderbilt; the NEW ones are too "hip".

Did Larry Flynt actually attend a Clinton state dinner? I seem to recall something about JFK Jr. bringing Flynt along as his guest.
Anyone else's memory jogged? Can anyone find an article on this and cite it?

JFK Jr invited Larry Flynt as his guest at a White House Press Correspondents dinner a few years back. He was a guest of George, the now defunct magazine. "The two raised a furor in May when Mr. Flynt attended the White House Correspondents Dinner as Mr. Kennedy's guest. " 1999

The Texas political clan was the largest, with Bush's homestate exporting to Washington for the night a governor, a congressman, two senators, a painter/sculptor, a CEO, a rancher, even the railroad commissioner.
Any short ones with really big ears, and grating drawl???

Can you imagine how the Xlinton crowd would have eaten their soup?
Hard to do with plastic forks.

Cardinal Archbishop of Los Angeles. Pro-homosexual, pro-sex education in Catholic grade schools. Pro New Age. Anti-traditional. Building a HIDEOUS "cathedral" as his legacy (snort!). His "Religious Education Conferences" are studies in leftism, New Age "spirituality," "womynchurch," heresy, animistic "liturgies," etc. If most bad bishops are loose cannons, this guy would be the whole flipping gundeck.

And I *loved* the fact that Mrs. Bush wore that particular dress. Truly, if I had shopped myself, I couldn't have found anything more well suited for her.

Thanks for the info. I think I've heard of him, just didn't connect the name and the person who prayed at the dinner last week.
To: Utah Girl
UtahGirl, have you forgotten, the presstitutes are still trying to say the trailer trash, from the past 8 years, did not have confusing state dinners. That's because all the guests ate out of troughs.

"Had a party of office people and finally went and put on his pajamas"
Wait a minute, isn't this exactly what everybody's so freaked about Mssrs. Condit & Clinton doing with their office help?

I saw the arrival of Pres. and Mrs. Fox at 0100 today. Laura Bush was a picture in her red lace, over hot pink, sparkly dress, and her beau, Pres. Bush looked spiffy too.
Did anyone else notice there was no confusion where Laura would stand when receiving the guests, there was no pushing her husband around, as was done by the previous first "wench"? Also did anyone notice, how Laura reached over and took Vicente Fox's hand to bring him and Mrs. Fox closer into the camera lens? Our President and First Lady were a pleasure to watch.

Yes, it is great to have a President and First Lady who not only know the proper protocol, but are friendly and gracious too. From what little C-Span deigned to show, the dinner looked wonderful, well thought out, and ran quite smoothly. The Bushes know the little touches that can smooth the way, the Clintons were clueless.
To: Utah Girl
Clintons were clueless... and classless, tasteless, witless and worthless.
