California Gov. Gavin Newsom to commute all death sentences in state

Gov. Gavin Newsom will commute the death sentences of all California inmates, changing the penalty for all 548 death row inmates to life without parole.

The outgoing governor announced the decision Thursday following weeks of speculation. The move comes just two months before Newsom leaves office in January.

When he took office in 2019, Newsom instituted a moratorium on executions, formalizing a de facto pause that had been in place since 2006.

But although that rule blocked all executions during his tenure, it still left all death sentences in place. In a letter addressed to all Californians, the governor shared his decision to commute the sentences of all 548 inmates — what he described as the largest death row in the Western Hempisphere.

Then house them all in one place on one unit and let them decide who lives and who doesn’t.

You sometimes get a faint pulse of good sense from CA voters. Ten or twelve years ago, in the same election they turned down a proposition to abolish the death penalty and at the same time approved a second one to expedite it. As the article said, when Newsom took office he announced a moratorium on executions, and now this. Proving once again that our rulers are more than happy when the voters vote the way they want. If not, they just ignore the voters

Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn, (translated to English, of course):

“A Communist system can be recognized by the fact that it spares the criminals and criminalizes the political opponent.”

I have a free who works for The California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR). She travels all over the state to all state prisons responding to medical issues. After Newsom shut down San Quentin death row and moved these prisoners into the general population the cases of violence and murders has soared.

The California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) reported 24 inmate homicides in 2024 and 31 inmate homicides in 2025

So 31 inmate executions last year alone.

Well of course he would never do that when he can charge taxpayers for the upkeep.

I’m sure the victims families aren’t very happy about this. But I guess murderers lives are more important.

ChatGPT says is cost $127,800/yr to house a prisoner in CA. So CA taxpayers are spending over $70 million each year to keep these scum in prison.

Coming soon to Texas. The new radical governor promised as much.

As least for non-white men.
