The firing of Lt. Gen. Brett Sylvia, a top military planner on the Joint Staff, came after an "extensive" investigation into leaks, and the matter has been referred to the Justice Department, according to Sean Parnell, the top Pentagon spokesman.
Parnell posted a lengthy statement on social media Thursday morning addressing the news of Sylvia's firing, which came out a day earlier. His comments are the first on-the-record response since it became public.
"Following an extensive Air Force OSI investigation, the Department took necessary personnel action to protect sensitive information," Parnell said. "To protect the integrity of the investigation, no further comment will be made regarding the individual or the circumstances of this action. This matter, along with others, have been referred to the Justice Department for potential further legal action."
A source familiar with the DOJ’s decision-making processes declined to confirm or deny the existence of an investigation.
War Secretary Pete Hegseth has long been fixated on rooting out leaks from within the department.
"The Department of War has zero tolerance for the intentional, unauthorized disclosure of classified information," Parnell said. "Anyone who compromises sensitive national security information puts the lives of our Warriors at risk and undermines every military operation that keeps our country safe."

GEEE————DIVORCE COURT WILL BE PROUD-—
Should have been canned after the first test failurw, but they gave two more!
Three strikes, and you’re out.
Plenty of room at the December 3rd firing squad.
Did I miss it or do they not know to whom information was leaked?
Prosecute under the UCMJ.
L
UCMJ probably covers this. 🤬
AI: “Army Lt. Gen. Brett Sylvia, admitted to leaking classified information about Iran and Ukraine to two reporters over roughly a year,”
Bust him to slick sleeve and 4 weeks “out-processing”.
I read a news report he was thought to be to be leaking to the NY Times. Breaking him down would be too lenient. He needs time in the brig.
Amen. UCMJ is the right venue.
You can tell he was a military guy and not a politician. Politicians learn to pass polygraph tests without a problem.
Different rackets.
Wonder if like that other general he offered to his military peers in Communist China to inform them secretly if Trump seemed to be heading toward doing something against China. United against Trump and against America. (spit).
Elissa Slotkin, Mark Kelly and the other traitors must admire him.
and nail his hide to the wall as a warning to all the OTHER generals of the consequences for leaking ...
Like others who commented: What’s wrong with the UCMJ for prosecuting unauthorized disclosure of classified information?
That’s what I would have faced during my time in service.
