Online gambling is about to ravage many young men’s futures.
An opinion piece in the Los Angeles Times recently compared celebrities promoting online gambling sites to spokespersons for cigarette companies in the past. It’s an apt comparison, considering the tension between online betting’s glamorous persona and its frequent reality of financial debt, addiction, suicide, and devastation to marriages and families.
The global sports betting market is worth over $120 billion. Prediction markets, which allow the average citizen to place bets on the outcome of everyday events, are on track to reach an astounding $1 trillion in volume by 2030.
Many bettors, however, fail to recognize that this isn’t a lucrative, skill-based path toward financial freedom; it is, instead, risky and dependent on chance. In fact, one in five Americans views sports betting as a form of investing. This statistic doubles to two in five when asking Gen Zers, who account for roughly half of all online betting activity.
Online gambling is different from traditional forms of casino gambling in that a person can gamble at all hours of the day, with few restrictions, no matter where he is. This makes it easier for someone who can’t afford to gamble to partake, and for a casual hobby to slide into a full-blown addiction.

From the Daily Wire. The nerve of these people to publish and article like this while they pimp Kalshi relentlessly every single day. They should solicit marijuana sellers as an advertiser as well so Daily Wire can profit off both of the major cancers, gambling and drug use, eating away at our society

Yup. Thank your local Lippertardian for his/her/its service. A pox on that perverse party and its godless, self-centered libertine ideology!
Totally agree...with Mohammedism #1...
I’ve seen gambling ruin the lives of several former employees. They would be paid on Friday and broke on Monday. Their families suffered as much as if they were addicts or alcoholics.
Here’s one way I had not thought of; insider betting on military operations. Talk about losing money, this could cause one to lose their career and freedom, while endangering countless others. Sad.

I have never understood the “I’m cool because I throw my money away in casinos” mindset.
I respect your choice!
Big time.
Exactly.
The reality of incurring financial debt, addiction, suicide, job uncertainty, scarred relationships, and personal devastation contrasts with the incessant portrayal of online bettors as “glamorous persona”.

Look at how far we have fallen since then!
The brain has these delicate systems (but super-powerful if rehearsed!) of reward and deterrence built in to it. These complement the plain old "remember stuff in detail" circuits.
Used properly, they allow us to build and think and persevere and do good.
Hijacked by drugs, alcohol, perversion, or cultivated sin, especially gambling, they can be built up until they destroy us: morally, financially, familially, domestically, civilly, nationally. Maybe get us killed.
Vice took down Rome and may take us down as well.
It has been well described in the Bible (try Psalms, Proverbs, Wisdom) and now neuroscience pretty much has it described in other ways.
State sponsored vices like gambling and laziness are very, very bad.
Steer yourself and your family members away from all of it and watch your life improve dramatically.
It really goes back to an old, old saying.....” A fool & his money are soon parted” It gets into even worse aspects than that, but that’s good enough for starters.
Streaming TV is full of those damn gambling app ads. They’re worse than the big pharma adds. I constantly reset advertising ID but it doesn’t help.
They will not get a dime of my money, but I wish more would say the same.
Maybe if there wasn't so much gambling, there wouldn't be as much grumbling about a temporary spike in the price of gas.
I Heart radio is lousy with the Chumba casino ads.
And everyone playing is winning and having lots of fun.
Chumba is making enough money to be a NASCAR sponsor.
I get enough money taken from me by force in the form of taxes, so I don’t risk what I have left.

I’m sick to death of the sportscasters on live events hawking betting apps. I’m so proud of Victor Wembanyama for standing up to the pressure and saying it’s immoral and “They (LeBron, et al) can do it. Without me.”
I have had personal experience with gamblers. They are worse than druggies. Druggies usually kill themselves off in a few years. Sad, but the agony is over. Gamblers go on for decades, destroying their families and anyone stupid enough to get involved with them.
