Pentagon chief Pete Hegseth ordered aides to fetch him a globe associated with legendary World War II General Dwight Eisenhower — and they broke it, The Washington Post reported Thursday.
According to the Post, the large orb fell while being carried by untrained staff, resulting in the loss of a large chunk of the world near Antarctica.
The Post reported that historic items are typically moved around the Pentagon premises by trained curators. However, Hegseth’s office had dispatched its own team.
A Pentagon official told AFP in a statement that “an accident” had occurred.
However, the statement referred to the artifact as “a replica of the Eisenhower globe” and the Washington Post report as an “inconsequential non-story.”
Photographs published by the Post showed the hole in the Antarctica area and an accompanying plaque identifying it as one of two nearly identical, historic “Eisenhower Globes” in the Pentagon’s possession.
President Donald Trump’s secretary of defense has focused on promoting a muscular image for the US military, starting by attempting to restore the Department of War name which was dropped in 1947 for the Department of Defense.
Hegseth, who rose as far as major during an Army National Guard career before becoming a Fox News host, regularly does televised exercise routines with troops. He has ordered mandatory testosterone screening for male military staff over 30.
He is currently overseeing the eight-month war against Iran, which Trump has promised repeatedly to bring to a rapid conclusion.
Eisenhower led the US war effort against Nazi Germany, commanding the D-Day landings that launched the phase of conflict leading to Adolf Hitler’s defeat.
A five-star general, he then was elected president in 1952, taking the helm of the White House as the Cold War gathered pace. He was often photographed posing alongside elaborate globes.

“resulting in the loss of a large chunk of the world”
Oh, the irony.
The dems have Hegseth now.
They could probably get the same one on ebay, but since it was Eisenhower globe it was probably made especially for him, so it would probably be impossible to get another one like it. But if it wasn’t special one would probably show up within a year or so on ebay. Big question I would have and that is was the base broken, was the arm holding the globe broken or the globe itself broken or a combination of two or three of the possibilities. If it was the arm or globe it self it would probably be replaceable. If the base was specially made for Eisenhower then it probably would be hard to replace.
Dumbasses at Breitbart strike again. Montgomery commanded the D-Day operations, not Ike.
Superglue
Well luckily Antarctica isn’t very important
So what training do you need to carry a globe?
I just did a search for “Broken Eisenhower globe” and it came up with a big globe. Anyway I bet the man in Halls, Tennessee could fix it, if he is still alive. He probably has the largest globe collection in the world. The one in the picture is from 1930 or before. If I remember right before 1930, or so in that time period the southern border of Libya and Egypt was from east to west, a straight line. Shortly after that Libya inquired some land south of that border. I think they won the additional land in some tribal battle or so. I kind of learned some history of dating globes as I have a few antiques globes my self, that is one of the first things I look for in an old globe to help decide whether it is before 1930 or after. Maybe someone with skill in posting the picture can copy it and paste it to free republic.
“untrained”? Odd phrasing.
Guam tipped over. 😏
“… resulting in the loss of a large chunk of the world near Antarctica.…”

Damn… I sure hope they don’t let the chunk’s ice cap melt… much of Florida would be inundated.
Not the Bee?
Sounds like it exposed the opening to the Nazi base at the south pole.
“ Dumbasses at Breitbart strike again. Montgomery commanded the D-Day operations, not Ike.”
Are you sure about this? I think that Eisenhower was the supreme Allied Commander over the entire operation while some other generals and admirals were in charge of various aspects of D-Day. For example, Montgomery was in charge of Allied ground forces during the initial landing and Admiral Ramsey commanded the naval forces, etc..
so who took the photographs of the damage? And who leaked it to the anti Trump newspaper?
Maybe the same person who “accidentally” dropped it?
and, what does a “trained curater” salary cost the taxpayer, and how many does it take to move a globe?
cheers!
“… trained curators…”
Well, on the other hand, curators are experts at repairing and preserving damaged artifacts……
