Ransomware negotiator arrested on federal charges as FBI probes hacking of personnel files

A Canadian cybersecurity executive who specializes in negotiating with ransomware hackers has reportedly been arrested on federal charges in Pennsylvania.

Edward Dubrovsky, 54, was arrested Thursday in the Philadelphia area, according to federal court documents cited by Reuters. The arrest comes as the FBI investigates ShinyHunters, a hacking group that recently claimed to have stolen information concerning nearly every FBI employee. Authorities have not publicly confirmed whether Dubrovsky’s arrest is connected to that investigation.

FBI Director Kash Patel announced Friday in a post on X that agents had arrested another suspected co-conspirator of ShinyHunters, the group believed to be responsible for a recent incident involving the FBI’s jobs website.

“Our agents in the field have arrested another suspected co-conspirator of the ShinyHunters group – the group believed to be responsible for the recent FBIjobs.gov incident, which occurred on a platform managed by a third-party vendor,” Patel wrote.

Patel said the arrest was the latest involving the network in a matter of days as the FBI works to dismantle the group and pursue additional leads. He did not identify the arrested suspect by name, and authorities have not publicly confirmed whether Dubrovsky is the individual referenced in his statement.

Federal court records filed in the Eastern District of Pennsylvania list charges involving conspiracy to threaten the confidentiality of information to extort money and interference with commerce, Reuters reported.

The specific conduct underlying the federal allegations remains unclear because the criminal case in the Eastern District of Texas is sealed.

If he's that well-connected he's one of them.

This article is about the hacker group; not to be confused with shiny hunters.

ShinyHunters

ShinyHunters is a black-hat criminal hacker and extortion group that has been active since 2019[2][3] and is said to have been involved in a significant number of data breaches.[2]

Like I told members of the church the other day, if the authorities WANT to find you, they can (and will). They can find these Indian scammers who cheat people out of money and could kill them for what they’ve done. They just don’t want to. However mess with the big boys themselves and watch (read) what happens to you.

It’s like the illegal surveillance of Candidate and President Trump, it didn’t matter until congress found out they were spying on them too. Then all of a sudden they write a bill giving themselves $500k to sue the government.

New story and interesting, but not a new phenomenon.

A long-long time ago you already had this happening.

On another note-

I still have the FR and a few news sites I sort of trust, but the Internet in the big picture is dead.

There is so much control being exercised by government on what gets to come in, by the big telecom providers, the OS system, social media has become just a few monopolies like Meta, that at this point the web which once was a free and open forum of information and communication is dead.

Between government wanting to control, and the soccer mom demanding control, the WWW has become a dim, and sterile place of idiot shorts, moron pundits, and trash news hidden behind pay walls.

What we call the “dark web,” and where you can sort of get to if you jump through hoops, this place which is today described as some criminal, dubious place, is really just the last vestiges of what once was a free and open web.

Yep. These ransomware extortionists cannot seem to be caught unless they try it on the FBI. Now all of a sudden, they’re taking action.

Ransomware extortionists should never be let out of prison.

That was obvious by the Garland persecution of January 6 Defendants. The FBI/DOJ tracked every person in DC and even some that weren’t there on that weekend.

Ninety-nine percent of the time, when the law wants someone, they can find them. When someone is allowed to get away with crime time after time, it’s because someone high up wants that chaos or crime to continue. Just like the Somalian financial fraud in MN. The state knew it was happening and they knew who was doing it. But it benefited certain people for the fraud to continue.
