Emanuel: Having one conversation about one country means you are politicizing a term that has huge and historic moral obligations. I have no problem having that conversation. But the fact that a questioner ignores Sudan that’s happening today, ignores Ukraine that is happening today tells me more about the question and the questioner than it does tells you — than the answer will reveal.

The whole exchange was a set up to get “Rahmbo” to at least appear to fall in line with El-Sayed. Welker first sets this up with the question of whether Gaza is a genocide, which is now a leftist litmus test. And after Emanuel’s lengthy answer citing actual genocides, Welker makes a hard pivot to the El-Sayed question.
Welker took five passes at Emanuel on an endorsement of El-Sayed, despite his clearly stating that he was traveling to Michigan in order to support the Democrat gubernatorial nominee, Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson. That didn’t matter. Nor did Emanuel’s preceding argument.
On the fifth pass and after much hectoring Emanuel made a bashful endorsement of El-Sayed, arguing a need to restore the Supreme Court to Democrat control. It is as if Welker had no interest in anything else except whether Emanuel would toe the line. Welker showed no deference to Emanuel’s hedging, insisting that he endorse the socialist despite his prior denunciations of the DSA and DSA-aligned candidates. This is the state of Elite media a month away from a pivotal midterm election
