Democrats want a blue wave. New Hampshire is Exhibit A for why that may not happen
AP ^ | September 30, 2026 | AP Bitter LOSERS

Five weeks before Election Day, Democratic enthusiasm is reaching a fever pitch.

With Republicans struggling to overcome President Donald Trump’s low standing, Democrats are on the offensive in Republican strongholds like Texas and Florida, and even eyeing contests in deeper-red Kansas and Mississippi. Many Democratic leaders predict that the House majority is all but theirs, and that the Senate majority, almost unthinkable a year ago, is nearly in their grasp as well.

In the midst of such confidence, however, Democrats are ignoring glaring vulnerabilities that threaten to undermine the unstoppable blue wave they say is coming.

Look no further than swing-state New Hampshire, where Democratic leaders are sounding the alarm about political challenges that could jeopardize Rep. Chris Pappas’ campaign for an open Senate seat and undermine the party’s ability to win races around the country.

Democrats point to Republicans’ overwhelming financial advantage that is allowing them to dominate the airwaves in the closing days of the campaign. At the same time, the Democrats’ brand remains deeply unpopular, and they have virtually no margin for error in midterm races that are playing out largely in Republican-leaning states.

New Hampshire Democratic Chairman Ray Buckley says that national Democratic leaders “have consistently been overly optimistic” as they look to expand the midterm map. He’s particularly worried about his state’s Senate contest, where Republicans are investing far more resources than Democrats.

"At the same time, the Democrats’ brand remains deeply unpopular..."

"Broke, drunk and unpopular is no way to win elections, Son!" ~ Dean Warmer

Wow. When you've lost the AP, you're in sad shape!

Democrats are short on cash and goodwill

For all the Democrats’ confidence, the party’s brand remains deeply unpopular and fundraising is lagging.

More than half of voters, 55%, have a “strongly” or “somewhat” unfavorable view of the Democrats, according to a Fox News poll from September. A similar share, 58%, say the same about the Republican Party, while about 6 in 10 voters have a negative view of Trump (62%).

At the same time, about half of registered voters say the Democratic Party is “too far to the left,” according to a recent New York Times/Siena poll.

"...President Donald Trump’s low standing"

That puzzles me so much. His list of accomplishments is like nothing I've ever seen from any other POTUS in my 75 years and he's got the most brilliant cabinet I've ever seen. Most people are brain-dead to that because the MSM has never reported anything positive about PDJT. People have herd mentality, buy into the "affordability" mantra, don't like what's happening in Iran and they just can't come to grips with his bigger-than-life personality. And he's not the best communicator. Still, I'm amazed at his poor polling.

“Republicans’ overwhelming financial advantage”

I watch TV, probably too much. Both the “local” ANF Atlanta News First and the CBS are 90% pro-Democrat agenda. The Political ads are 70% pro-Republican. The “public service” ads are 90% pro-Democrat agenda... more spending, more taxes, anti-investment, anti-development, pro-abortion, pro-transgender children.

I solicit for both left and right email. 90% of my email is leftist. For every email from Heritage or CATO or Paragon on OPENTHEBOOKS I get 20 or 30 from leftist groups.

But the big difference is the ground game. Here in Rick Jackson land of Sandy Springs GA the leftist ground game is perpetual. The Republican ground game is invisible.

The election will be decided by the turnout. Based on the primaries and every indicator, the MAGA voters will sit home yelling at their screen. The left will turnout and vote...and maybe vote and vote and vote. Since MAGA won’t be there to vote, they will not know (but only suspect) that Vote Harvesters will vote on behalf of the dead, minors 16-17, non-citizens, movers, vacant house, vacant lots.

They have not lost AP when it leads with “DJT’s low standing.”

They are still on the payroll.

Trump is the first President to publicly call elections “fraudulent” - and its right and proper that he does.

And this time around, he controls the DOJ, and has deployed Assistant AG for Civil Rights Harmeet Dhillon in an unprecedented way to observe elections and look for anomalies. Trump didn’t get everything he wanted in terms of controlling mail-in ballots and corrupt handling and verification of mail-in ballots, but he’s nonetheless trying.

Such efforts are completely unmeasurable by even the most honest pollsters (and most are not), so it could be a real wildcard in this election.

I just read this whole article prior to it being posted.
Mostly because Pappas is running for Senate in my state of NH.

What this article says IF you read between the lines is that their internal polling is showing they are losing to Sununu in this race. TP USA came to NH because they knew that Sununu could defeat Pappas. Not to mention other races in NH. It is all about TURN OUT.

Yes, the Republicans are out spending Dems in NH because we have a real chance of taking this Senate seat back.
There are constant adds on the Boston stations, which reach most of the NH electorate. Almost all the adds are for this Senate race.

AP refuses to even say “Sununu” as the GOP senate candidate.
I know his family is not popular on FR but he was a popular gov of NH.

This is the keystone to the midterms.
If Sununu wins the senate seat, we are probably safe and might even pickup MN.

If he looses to a crazy person, things are going to get bad fast.

Trump ran on a platform of reducing the cost of living, essentially were you better off 4 years ago then now.

I will say it, Life is not cheaper under DJT for some of the country then it was under Biden.

Business and the economy are not better then under Biden. This is at present due to the Iran nonsense.

Every small business owner I talk to is all mirroring the same deal, revenue is down across the board vs 25, which was less then 24. This is not just in my industry of auto repair.

Our son runs an auto repair shop and tire store in the San Francisco South Bay. They are hitting record high revenues. Of course, the area is Ground Zero for the big AI Boom.

If we win New Hampshire it’s going to be a good *Senate* night. The House has me more worried. But many scenarios where the Republicans do fine don’t include New Hampshire.

I sure hope Sununu wins.

If anyone should think things are bad under Trump and a Republican Congress, be assured that it will be the anti-Midas touch should the Democrat Socialists gain control of either or both Houses of Congress, and thwart Team Trump at every opportunity for two years, while preparing a step to the Oval Office for AOC.

Anti-Midas touch = gold turns to fecal matter.

No. The DNC is short on cash. Every Democrat PAC and in general every candidate has plenty of cash on hand. It’s only the DNC that is broke. That’s not a bad thing, but it’s nowhere near as big a deal as everyone keeps making of it.

The current polling in New Hampshire (five September polls), show Pappas (D) with a strong lead over Sununu (R).

My weighted average of the NH polls show Pappas 48.55% - Sununu 41.79%, with a 96.4% probability of Pappas winning.

I don't know what the point of this article is.

FYI, this is John Sununu Jr.
Former US Congressman and former US Senator who lost to Shaheen.

His younger brother Chris Sununu was the very popular governor who could have EASILY won two years ago against Maggie Hassan for US Senate, but decided not to run.
