In Fighting for Every Black Child, Did I Betray My Own? [A wealthy woman says she sent her own daughter to a bad school because she thought it would help the other students]
New York Times ^ | September 20, 2026 | Nikole Hannah-Jones

A decade ago, I made a decision about my daughter’s education that I hoped would challenge New York City’s separate and unequal school system. Now 16, she thinks I made the wrong choice.

“Did you know my school was bad like this when you decided to put me here?” she asked.

My hands tightened on the steering wheel as I worked to keep my face neutral, buying a few moments to gather my thoughts.

By dismissal time, Najya’s shock had turned to boiling, and the seatbelt had barely clicked before she was confronting me.

I had braced myself for this moment, spent nearly a decade expecting it, preparing for it. When Najya was entering pre-K, my husband, Faraji, and I decided to send her to the type of school that wealthier families with choices uniformly avoid — one that is low-income and mostly Black.

Faraji and I felt an obligation to make educational decisions based on the collective good and not just our individual advantage... Faraji and I decided that our role in this struggle meant upending the status quo and sending our child not to a wealthy white school but to a poor Black one.

We thought by sending Najya to a mostly low-income and Black school, we could help improve it for all the children there.

my child just shook her head, her face a mask of disbelief, and something else: betrayal.

“So you had money to send me to one of the best schools, and you chose not to?” she said, hurling her words. “Because other kids are disadvantaged, you didn’t want to put me in a great school?”

A slow and cold strangulation of her child in hopes to boost her woke stock among her woke hag friends.

You don’t have a child, you have a social experiment.

So congrats: if she has a synapse in her head she’s going to become everything you hate.

Might this be similar to the Karen-cat ladies who put their kids into “gender affirming care [sic]” in order to advance status within the book club?

Was she trying to prove biden’s ‘poor kids are just as bright and just as talented as white kids’?

Well that’s just stupid. Has she never heard that even one bad apple spoils the whole barrel? And the transverse is not the case. Many years ago, A Christian couple we knew told us they sent their kids to public school so they could witness to the other kids. Stupid. Throwing children to the wolves! While it’s true some children are natural leaders and could possibly positively influence another child to do good, it is not a child’s job to try to lift up those around him. It is a parents jobs to see that their souls are protected, to the best of their ability. History has shown us that when you put a bunch of “bad” kids in with good ones, the rotten apple effect usually takes affect. qv. forced busing.

“We thought by sending Najya to a mostly low-income and Black school, we could help improve it for all the children there.”

And exactly how was it supposed to do that?

Sounds to me like her mother’s narcissistic need to think of herself as a progressive intellectual put her own daughter’s life at risk. There is nothing honorable about this.

It’s time for us to face reality, folks.

Giving women political power was a horrible mistake. They are biologically incapable of exercising it responsibly. They are genetically unsuitable for leadership positions.

I don’t want to hear a word about Maggie Thatcher. The exceptions prove the rule.

Repeal the 19th Amendment.

Considering who the author is, Nikole Hannah-Jones, it could very well be fictional.

Surely this is fiction.

Might be. Or at the very least, greatly exaggerated for dramatic effect.
