Americans who still treat the polling industry as a weather report are flying blind into a midterm general election.
The primary season just finished exposing an industry that has been rotting for at least a decade. The misses were not small. They were serial, public, and in select cases, worse than incompetent. Americans need a reliable map of races that will decide who writes tax law, runs committees, and sets the country’s direction. Right now, much of the map is junk.
In Michigan’s Democratic Senate primary, polls had the Islamic leftist Abdul Mohammed El-Sayed ahead by double digits on average. He won by one point. In Wisconsin’s blue gubernatorial primary, democratic socialist Francesca Hong led by large margins in survey after survey. She lost. In Minnesota’s Senate primary, mainstream liberal Angie Craig was shown even or ahead of uber-woke Lt. Gov. Peggy Flanagan. Flanagan won by nearly 20 points.
In Florida’s Democratic Senate primary, #Resistance kingpin Alexander Vindman was the national donor favorite. Polling indicated that he was the double-digit leader over the obscure state lawmaker Angie Nixon, a Democratic Socialists of America member. Nixon beat Vindman by double digits.
On the Republican side, surveys had James Fishback, a fringe Zoomer social media personality who appreciates Zohran Mamdani, closing on the President Donald J. Trump-endorsed Byron Donalds. Fishback finished around 11 percent. Donalds took about 48 percent. Lt. Gov. Jay Collins, a Gov. Ron DeSantis appointee, took about 25 percent, principally from old-school movement conservatives.
Those were not rounding errors. They were a collapse of the product the public is sold as science. Needless to say, this list is not exhaustive of polling misfires around the country.

Do the polling experts on here believe that ALL polls suck, or just the ones we don’t like?
Because there are some which were released today by a company called “co/efficient” which we would desperately LOVE to believe regarding New Hampshire and (!!!) Minnesota.
She’s actually 61 years old.
Fixed. :-)
The problem is that the penalties are not severe enough when the polls get it wrong.
Abolition is the more reasonable choice imho.
RE: Do the polling experts on here believe that ALL polls suck, or just the ones we don’t like?
Disregard polls whose methodologies are QUESTIONABLE. Only take seriously polls that poll the most likely voting proportion of Republicans and Democrats. Sample size is important too. Also, take seriously only those that have good track records in the past. And yes, take seriously the good polls, even whose results we don’t personally like.
I give up on the polls. One poll says Republicans are gonna take it. The next one says the Democrats are.
One day, its Republicans are gonna win, the next day, the Democrats. It keeps going back and forth.
that’s what sells campaign ads ...
Polls are complete crap. How many of us are getting multiple calls and texts a day trying to get us to do a poll? Normal people ignore, delete, or won’t respond. Polls are absolutely meaningless.
The only poll that matters is a HOPEFULLY free and fair election result.
Exactly. They are, at best, approximations of real phenomena (political opinions and behavior) distorted by the language used to measure them. À la the Observer Effect.
They are normally used to create the very data they supposedly reflect. The Media know this; the average news consumer does not.
Disgusting. The good news - - people are waking up to the truth - most 'pollsters' are liberals and therefore liars.
