BSW says it prefers an AfD-only minority government with give and take with parties outside government on specific issues.

Minority governments are unusual. With a minority government, there's a sense in which the parties out of government hold the ruling party accountable, because they could approve a vote of no confidence and force an early election. With this possibility in mind, it's a good idea for the ruling party to work with alternating outside parties; e.g., with BSW on populist issues and with CDU on economic issues.

BSW - Bündnis Sahra Wagenknecht – Vernunft und Gerechtigkeit (A small left wing party that is anti-immigrant and soft on environmental issues.

AfD - Alternative für Deutschland - equivalent of the MAGA movement in the US. Slandered in the mainstream media as being a bunch of Nazis.

CDU - Christian Democratic Union - New World Order types - think Bushite Republicans. Partnered with the Bavarian CSU (Christian Social Union) with similar views but slightly more socially conservative and dominated by Catholics.

This is weird. AfD has 79 out of 82 seats it needs to form a majority government. BSW has 5 seats. They could form a majority government with AfD if they wanted to, and then they could negotiate to control certain ministries. So I guess they’re saying they’d vote for AfD to control, but don’t want to take responsibility? Which kinda makes sense, actually, because they probably figure that the ministries that they agree on they agree so completely on that there’s no sense adding electoral responsibility if they have a reliable authority anyway?

Hi dangus. BSW ran into internal troubles when it tried to cooperate with CDU in the eastern German state of Thuringia. Apparently, being a leader of BSW is like herding cats.

This is weird. AfD has 79 39 out of 82 83 seats it needs to form a majority government. BSW has 5 seats.

The AfD currently has 39 seats, and therefore lacks just THREE seats to be able to form a majority government without the help of any coalition partner. The Parliament of Sachsen-Anhalt has a total of 83 seats, so 42 seats would give any party a slim but viable simple majority (in some legislatures, certain motions require a qualified majority of 60% for passage, but this is not the case in Sachsen-Anhalt).

You got CDU and CSU backwards.

CDU and CSU have a permanent relationship, but CSU is Ctholic, runs only in Bavaria, is more conservative, and was outraged CDU joined Die Linke (The Left, the party of the former Stasi) to become part of the government in several states.
