Con Edison shut off power to 10,000 customers in Queens, New York, on Friday as temperatures soared over 100 degrees.
This is after Communist NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani urged New Yorkers to raise their thermostats to 78 degrees to alleviate strain on the energy grid.
“ConEd pulls the plug on nearly 10,000 customers in Howard Beach, Ozone Park, Richmond Hill and South Ozone Park as power demand soars with temps pushing 100 degree,” 4 New York reported.
It gets even worse.
500,000 customers are being urged to reduce their electricity use while the ConEd crews make repairs.
Per 4 New York: ConEd cuts voltage by 8% across parts of the Bronx, Westchester, Queens and Brooklyn under soaring demand. Nearly 500,000 customers are being urged to slash electricity use while crews make repairs.

Sweating to the Oldies .... Haul out your old Richard Simmons DVD
Possibly mostly Jews it was mentioned somewhere.
This shortage is the result of decades of mismanagement and bad policies, by thousands of politicians, bureaucrats, and activists.
I say this as a native New Yorker, born & raised in the Big Apple. I left decades ago, but still have friends and family there. I often visit.
And I've paid attention to NYC politics since the 1970s. I know whereof I speak.
No, not mostly Jews.
As a native New Yorker, I know those neighborhoods. The pain is spread out.
Besides which, NYC is so diverse now, it's impossible to have widespread blackouts without targeting everyone.
The warmth of collectivism.
What ever happened to opening up fire hydrants kids and adults getting wet and dealing with the heat. Is everyone this big of pussies? Granted shutting down power plants and putting up windmills is idiotic BS, but damn. SIUBC. This ain’t the first effing heat wave that the country has had.
“Hot town, summer in the city
Back of my neck gettin’ dirt’ and gritty
Been down, isn’t it a pity?
Doesn’t seem to be a shadow in the city
All around, people looking half-dead
Walkin’ on the sidewalk, hotter than a match head”.
This very hot weather was predicted well in advance. The city and it’s citizens should have been prepared. Today’s air conditioners are pretty economical and cheaper, I bought one a few days before the heat wave and installed it. We have central air, but the compressor struggles after 90 degrees, so this new one was a supplement. Here in NW Jersey it was 102 both Thursday and Friday. We have been able to maintain 74 degrees inside during the hottest times of day. I know it gets way hotter down south and wonder why they don’t seem to have NY Cities problems. Something to do with politics? Most likely.
My father considered it a waste of money.
The nuns at school said we should welcome our discomfort as an opportunity to offer it as a sacrifice to Christ, thus reducing our time in Purgatory.
In related news, NYC air conditioners draw 9% more amperage to compensate, resulting in 18% more waste heat.
I was 17 when my father finally caved into my mother’s demands and broke down and bought an air conditioner. It was a window unit and was only in their bedroom. The rest of the house was an oven. I would sleep in the basement.
Note to Yankees: Things are no better in NC, so don’t move there.
“...This shortage is the result of decades of mismanagement and bad policies, by thousands of politicians, bureaucrats, and activists....”
^THIS^ is absolutely correct. And it’s not just limited to NYC, but every communist-controlled/RAT shithole across America. These communist basstids have waged war on power generation/distribution for years as part of their overall ongoing and continuing attack o destrroy the USA and all it stands for.
Meanwhile, the Chinese have air conditioning for their pets.

Sadly these kinds of power outages is going to make libtards and commies flood deep red counties and states. Yesterday the storms on top of this heat dome knocked out power to some 1/2 million in MI yesterday, the only good news suggests these types will stick to bigger cities that already lean blue.
Fair chance that the census will have largely taken place so these puke lefties can only totally ruin counties and townships in the next few years. If this trend to continues the states likely will take a few years leading us into into the next decade as these occupiers stampede.
White blue collar neighborhoods. There are more Jews in Bayside and Douglaston, if they really want to cater to the new mayor.
This is the result of at least 50 years of stupidity.
Fifty years ago Shoreham Nuclear Power was fueled and ready to generate power but the State of New York would not permit it to put a single kilowatt on the grid because Anti-Nuclear fear mongers had filled the heads of the people unreasoned ideas of massive death caused by a melt down.
Then 45 years later Governor Cuomo caves to the loony Left and shuts down Indian Point Nuclear Power Plant. Indian Point supplied 25% of NYC's electric power.
And we should also mention, although not directly NY stupidity, Obama's war on coal that shut down hundreds of power plants across the country.
Leftist in New York have been digging this hole for a long time. Maybe it is time to stop digging.
No, they will deliver less power, run longer and work less efficiently. BTW, my old (~1970) whole house air conditioner used a synchronous motor, which meant that the speed was tied to line frequency, not voltage. If the load torque exceeds the capacity of the motor a synchrous motor stalls. (The A/C motor had a less efficient starting motor with a centripedital switch which cut out when the shaft speed matched the line frequency.)
