LA DA Nathan Hochman says 81 percent of claims in $4B sex abuse settlement may be ‘fraudulent’

Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan Hochman said that 81 percent of claims in a $4 billion settlement for sex abuse victims — the largest in US history – may be fraudulent.

Nathan Hochman urged a Los Angeles County Superior Court judge to stop payments until Dec. 31 amid an ongoing criminal investigation, which was launched in November last year, according to a motion filed on Thursday

“The District Attorney’s Office believes the percentage of fraudulent claims in the related lawsuits seeking funds from this settlement may be as high as 81 percent,” Hochman’s office wrote in the court papers, which were viewed by The Post.

“I have filed this application with the interests of the real victims in mind,” Hochman added.

“This intervention is critical to safeguarding the rights of the legitimate child abuse survivors, including preserving the integrity of the settlement process.

“It will also help ensure that individuals who have allegedly filed fraudulent claims are held accountable for exploiting the horrific abuse and trauma experienced by genuine survivors.”

A hearing is set to take place on Monday at 8:30 a.m. at the Stanley Mosk Courthouse in Los Angeles.

Hochman filed the motion – one year after the LA County Board of Supervisors chiefs agreed to pay out to more than 11,000 claims of sexual abuse from victims previously in custody at juvenile halls, foster homes and children’s shelters.

The agreement reached in April 2025 surpassed the $2.6 billion sexual abuse settlement reached with the Boy Scouts of America in 2022.

The claims relate to abuse allegations dating back to 1959, but the majority of cases range between the 1980s and 2000s, according to Los Angeles County officials

The sexual abuse is alleged to have taken place at Probation Department facilities and the now-closed MacLaren’s Children’s center.

One of my laws of government is that “Any benefit will receive applications from 500 percent of eligible persons.”

That’s a keeper. Will add that to my profile page later.

jimfree’s law of government benefits:

“Any benefit will receive applications from 500 percent of eligible persons.”

I would add “at a minimum” based on what we’ve seen from the Somalis up in Minneapolistan.

Recall Obama’s billion dollar payout to fake black farmers in the aptly named Pigford II. And Democrats complain about Trump’s weaponization fund to recompense the victims of Biden’s J6 persecution.

Even 30 years ago a NYC owned bus/seats 60 people would get into an accident. 90 would file medical claims for whiplash and everything you can imagine. The chiropractors and scummy lawyers were in cahoots with these scroungers.

Thank you, FP, and please use it in any way you like. The math aware can readily see that it is a variation of the Pareto Optimal Rule where most instances of anything are in 20 percent of the observed places.

80% is about the percentage of false accusations I saw in DC.

Back in the 90's, fed empoyee A claims fed employee B sexually harassed them. Employees and agency go to arbitration. Employee B gives damning statements that make him look bad and needs more training. Employee A is awarded six figures and early retirement with full benefits.

Employees A and B, split the settlement awarded because it was a scheme. Employee B must attend sensitivity seminars in places with sandy beaches in winter months, and continues his employment with the federal government.

Somalians didn't learn fraud American style in a vacuum.

Statement from DOJ on fund...
“There is legal precedent for such a Fund, most notably the “Keepseagle” case where the Obama Administration created a $760 million fund to redress various claims alleging racism against the federal government over a period of decades.

In Keepseagle, hundreds of millions of dollars remaining in the fund were distributed to non-profits and NGOs that never made claims, whereas any money remaining in The Anti-Weaponization Fund will revert to the federal government. The Obama DOJ settled by putting $680 million from the judgment fund into a bank account for a single claims administrator to dole out. In Keepseagle the remaining money—which ended up being over $300 million—was distributed to the entities that had not even submitted claims.”
Seems people forget this fund is the result of Trump suing the US Treasury/ Internal Revenue Service settlement for releasing his tax returns. Drop the anti weaponization compensation fund and pocket the damages. Next...
