DOJ Opens Criminal Probe Into E. Jean Carroll Over Alleged Perjury in Trump Case

The U.S. Department of Justice has reportedly launched a criminal investigation into E. Jean Carroll, the former advice columnist who won more than $88 million in jury awards against President Donald Trump, according to a source familiar with the matter.

The investigation, first reported by CNN, is focused on whether Carroll committed perjury during testimony related to her lawsuits against Trump. Specifically, investigators are examining statements Carroll made in 2022 claiming that she had not received outside financial support for her legal battles.

That claim later came under scrutiny after Carroll’s legal team disclosed that billionaire Democrat donor and LinkedIn co-founder Reid Hoffman had helped cover some of her legal expenses.

According to reports, Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche has recused himself from the matter due to his previous role as Trump’s personal attorney and his involvement in Carroll-related litigation.

The Justice Department declined to comment on the reported investigation, citing its policy against discussing ongoing criminal matters. Carroll’s attorney, Robbie Kaplan, has not publicly commented on the development.

Carroll, a former columnist for Elle magazine, accused Trump of sexually assaulting her in a dressing room at Bergdorf Goodman in New York City during the mid-1990s. Trump has consistently denied the allegation.

“Number one, she’s not my type. Number two, it never happened,” Trump said when first responding to the accusation in 2019.

Following those comments, Carroll filed a defamation lawsuit against Trump. She later brought a second lawsuit after New York Democrats enacted the Adult Survivors Act, a law that temporarily revived expired sexual assault claims.

In 2023, a jury awarded Carroll $5 million after finding Trump liable for sexual abuse and defamation. A second jury awarded her an additional $83.3 million in January 2024 stemming from Trump’s public denials of her allegations.

Trump has continued fighting the verdicts in court. His legal team previously sought a mistrial and has appealed the judgments, including a petition currently pending before the U.S. Supreme Court.

Earlier this month, the Justice Department announced that it would ask the Supreme Court to allow the federal government to replace Trump as the defendant in Carroll’s original defamation case under the Westfall Act. The administration argues that Trump’s comments were made in his official capacity as president, potentially shielding him from personal liability.

The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit recently declined to rehear the case en banc, though it has temporarily paused collection of the $83 million judgment while the Supreme Court considers whether to take up the matter.

The newly reported criminal investigation adds another twist to one of the most closely watched legal battles surrounding President Trump, as federal prosecutors now examine whether Carroll’s testimony about funding for her lawsuits was truthful.

Thank you very much and God bless you.

This bimbo soaked Trump for $88 million via a New York City jury for rape. The charge was absurd on its face. Now she might be in legal jeopardy herself if she lied about an outsider funding her suit. As it turns out, the reprehensible Reid Hoffman may have funded her suit against Trump. Trump hasn't had to pay the judgment amount yet and maybe will never have to pay depending on what transpires at a Supreme Court hearing and what happens with the potential perjury case against Carroll reported in this story.

Good. I saw a short video of her on X the other day and the woman is clearly crazy. She’s also a liar and belongs in jail for perjury.

In this instance, the only pain this Looney Tunes woman is going to suffer is going to be the process. There’s no way in hell she’s going to get convicted of anything but the process could be extremely painful. Especially if the benefactors who financed her acts against Trump cut off the money tap

My personal opinion is that this woman has been repeating all of these lies for so long and Been Told that she is telling the truth that she now believes all these things to have actually happened. She is incredibly delusional. And I don’t believe she even sees herself as a liar anymore

I have a sister-in-law like that. She’s pretty psycho, narcissist and lies about everything. And what happens with her is she tells the same lie three times and because she’s heard the lie three times she believes the lie is now fact

I think the belief in her lies is so strong that she could pass a lie detector test. And this is the class in which I put this Carroll woman

“the woman is clearly crazy.”

No doubt about it. She’s a loon.

Her fines should be, at a minimum, equal to that assessed against President Trump.

She can have Reid Hoffman and Kathy Hochul cough up $88 million.

I would be so sweet if she went to jail.

Yes, she’s nothing but a gold digger, and the only way you can stop their frivolous suits is to make THEM pay a big price. I hope he is able to soak her good.

It would be great to see her behind bars. Maybe it would be a deterrent for future gold diggers.

“...according to a source familiar with the matter.”

This “source” must not have seen the pronouncement from the DoJ office doing the investigating: they said they are investigating Reid Hoffman and the funding from his “non-profit”; they further stated that E. Jean Carroll was NOT herself a subject of their investigation.

In court, Trump should say, “Look at her. I wouldn’t f**k that skank with Biden’s d**k. You know me and you know that’s true.”

Sounds like Trump. I think I’ve heard him say about her “she’s not my type.” But your rendition sounds more true-to-life of what he’d be thinking.

It’s about freakin’ time this happened. She’s the creepy lady that got shivery excited, started flirting with Anderson Cooper (who is acknowledged homosexual) and then said rape was “sexy”. And she was one of the nutcases that Governor Mario Cuomo dumped out on the street when he closed a bunch of psych centers in New York, in the late 70’s, early and mid-80’s. He turned those closed psych centers into prisons, and the nutcases eventually ended up in them. Plus, She couldn’t remember what day it occurred, what she was wearing, what day of the week, what time, what month, what season, where even in the store it took place. Day or night? She remembers nothing. She & all those NY morons who gave the verdict to her with no evidence should be investigated.

(she) “started flirting with Anderson Cooper”

I remember that! It was beyond creepy. I guess she didn’t know he’s a fag.
