'Democratic kingmaker' Clyburn warns GOP-led effort to 'break' his district could backfire
Fox News ^ | 11 May 2026 | Elaine Mallon

Rep. Jim Clyburn, D-S.C., cautioned Republicans to be "very careful what you pray for" amid a Trump-backed effort by Republican South Carolina state lawmakers to redraw the state’s map — an effort that would target Clyburn, the lone Democratic member of the state’s U.S. House of Representatives.

Deemed a "kingmaker" within the Democratic Party, Clyburn’s endorsement of then–presidential candidate Joe Biden during the 2020 election was widely credited with helping Biden win the presidency. He has been in Congress for more than 30 years, but now faces uncertainty as the South Carolina legislature voted Wednesday to consider redrawing the state’s congressional lines.

However, in an interview with CNN's "State of the Union," Clyburn said he believed he would win his seat for an 18th term, adding that if Republicans are successful with their redistricting effort in South Carolina, there are "possibilities of at least three Democrats" being elected to Congress in the state.

"I don’t know why people think I could not get re-elected if they redistrict South Carolina," Clyburn said. "I have a district that’s about 45% African American. I have no idea what the number will be after the legislature finishes, but whatever that number is, I will be running on my record and America’s promise."

I was in his district ten years and saw the area decline. He ignores most of his area for just college towns and urban areas.

This is funny...Kingmaker. Biden won through fraud not through a well run campaign. The gaslighting by leftist publications is sheer doublespeak.

Had to bite my tongue yesterday. Some blub about Massie’s (disclaimer I am not a big Massie fan) age came across once of the stations and the couple libs in the room went off on the need to have age restrictions. I wanted to point out many of their elected turds (just like this one) are just as old or more.

These are the same goobers that went off on a Trump blurb a few minutes later saying he has dementia and can’t even stay on topic or make a coherent sentence. To keep the peace at the family event I had to leave the room muttering “oh but not previous President Potato Head, stupid, uninformed liberal bullshit” under my breath.

Compared to what? He strong-armed Biden to pick Kamala. Let’s hope he sticks around.

I've wasted too much of my life tolerating them and being polite as they care not at all for my feelings. Feelings? Pure as I can get it hate. I'm too old to care that they feel lofty for putting up with me as a fool who is a Trumper. I want revenge before I die. Trump and I turn 80 soon.

And that despicably ugly monster has made a lot of impeachment threats against Trump. No quarter.

My sinking feeling is that the Republican old boys in Columbia will leave things as they are. Clyburn is a fixture in SC politics.

"I don’t know why people think I could not get re-elected if they redistrict South Carolina," Clyburn said. "I have a district that’s about 45% African American. Clyburn is right.

The concept of "minority majority" districts is patently offensive to African-Americans who believe that it's racist to think that the only way for an African-American to win an election is if they construct a black-dominant district.

Clyburn is proof that he can win on experience and a proven record (whether I agree with his politics or not).

The same argument goes in reverse: that a white politician can also represent African-Americans in his district.

Had it not been the two elderly mothers in the vicinity it would have been different. I was silent as I could be for them. I didn’t understand why the tv was on anyhow? These were only 2 libs out of a two dozen or so people, so I left it go for the 3 generations of moms on their day.

Americans need to demand that the “No Kings” King, King Little Jimmy Clyburn the Black Racist King should retire and spend more time with the family. He’s older than 54 and too damn old to be a member of Congress.

Getting rid of that scumbag Clyburn would be great. We have that bastard to thank for putting Jackson on the SC. That was what Biden had to pay to become President.

He won the Democratic nomination because Black women in South Carolina came out in droves for him during the SC primary. He had lost the four previous primaries. And as soon as he won ONE state.... everyone else instantly dropped out. It was very strange.
