Trump calls US strikes on Iran a ‘love tap’ after destroyers targeted in Strait of Hormuz
Fox News ^ | 8 May 2026 | Greg Norman-Diamond, Emma Bussey and Jennifer Griffin

President Donald Trump said Thursday that retaliatory strikes against Iranian targets were “just a love tap." The strikes came as U.S. Central Command said Iranian forces “launched multiple missiles, drones and small boats” while the U.S. Navy guided-missile destroyers USS Truxtun, USS Rafael Peralta and USS Mason were transiting the Strait of Hormuz.

so basically another two months potentially before anything hits the fan for them. Taking us to July 4th? Meaning the IRG will still be in power as we celebrate 250 here. I do not think that was the President’s plan.

I hope the US military has been able to rebuild weapons stocks in the down time... plus some for Cuba.

Or Iran could come to their senses in a short time and gas might be down to $2.50/gal by election day.

The reality is probably somewhere in between your pessimism and my optimism.

You’re right about that. People on FR need to be realistic and not support Trump on everything like they are. For real people - the people I work with - that are making $15, $20 or so an hour ( or even less, yes that is very common). This cannot go on. I’m stuck with the truck I got and have been paying an extra $22.50 a week, or $90 a month for gas for a couple months now. At my wage I can no longer afford to do this. For retirees and elites its no problem, but it is a serious problem for regular folks, including those in the US military that supporting families on military pay. Remember them in about 6 months when the election happens because they will remember. Unless this war wraps up asap it will be considered the biggest economic stumble of the 21st century. We were on track, excellent progress, and feel flat on our face as a nation unless the mullahs are completely removed and a US friendly government in place in Iran.

““these were Very Large Crude Carriers (VLCC)... massive, empty ships trying to make it back to Iran”

Israeli Oil Transport Ltd., how may I help you?

Have Israeli mariners capture the ships and put them to profitable use.

“I hope the US military has been able to rebuild weapons stocks in the down time... plus some for Cuba.”

Except for ammo, most of the expendables the US military uses are hand-crafted.

Its funny. I would bet 99% of the people in the country understands what that means.

I will also bet that 99% of insane idiots will A) Make a comment about love not meaning hitting someone; B) If this is how he shows “love” he is deranged.

It must be tiring to be that upset all of the time.

I have to complete faith in President Trump and our War Department to do whatever they deem as necessary to squelch these animals that run Iran. I have no empathy but for the multitudes of civilians who will endure even more hardship while this process comes to its inevitable conclusion. Finish this so we can turn onto the muzzies within our own borders. I loathe to no end islam and its followers.

On this day in 2012, WTI Crude was $106.17 - $12 higher than today. Obama was re-elected and the Democrats actually GAINED 8 seats in the House.

In the election just two years before, in 2010:

{Wikipedia 2010 House Elections} Republicans regained control of the U.S. House they had lost in the 2006 midterm election, picking up a net total of 62 seats and erasing the gains Democrats made in 2006 and 2008. Although the sitting president’s party usually loses seats in a midterm election, the 2010 election resulted in the highest losses by a party in a House midterm election since 1938, as well as the largest House swing since 1948. In total, 52 House Democrats were defeated, including 36 freshman and sophomore representatives.

This left the democrats with 193 seats, down from 257 in 2008. In 2012, as you stated, the democrats picked up 8 seats. They still only had 199, while the Republicans had 234 after the 2012 elections. Also, the Senate was retaken by the Republicans in 2014. So...

It shows volatility in politics, not a prediction of things to come.

IF the war is over and Iran comes to the table and makes the correct deal (and people will differ on what that is) I think you’ll see prices dropping quickly. My guess is this will happen soon.

Cool story... but it hasn’t dropped at the pumps. He has manipulated and insider traded oil prices and futures 6 or 7 times in this war.

But pump prices are up and have not dropped since this Israeli war.

I filled up yesterday and paid about an extra 2 dollars a gallon from January. I called it paying my 60 dollar Israeli tax.
