Minnesota’s new state flag, adopted after a public redesign process, is now at the center of a growing divide across the state.
The debate traces back to 2023, when the DFL-controlled Legislature established a commission to overhaul both the flag and state seal. The move followed years of criticism that the old flag was overly complex and featured imagery seen by some as offensive to Native Americans. Over the course of the redesign effort, the commission received roughly 20,000 public comments and more than 2,000 design submissions before settling on a final version.
“We were committed to maximum public input in this process,” said Anita Gaul, vice chair of the redesign committee. When the new flag was unveiled, Gaul expressed confidence in its broad appeal, calling it “a winning flag that unifies us.”
But now two year after its adoption, the flag has become anything but unifying.
This week, the Inver Grove Heights City Council voted to continue flying the old state flag on city property. The city joins Champlin, Zumbrota, Plainview and Elk River, which have taken similar steps.

Tim Twinkletoes Walz sold the flag to the Somalis he helped bilk Minnesotans and the country out of billions.
They should go all the way and change the name of the state to New Somalia.
Because it is an homage to the skinnies flags.
The old flag had a farmer and an Indian on horseback. Those were tossed for the Blackhawk Down people.
What exactly is “a public redesign process”, how did this one come about and who was behind the decision making?

The person who designed the flag has weapons grade TDS and is a democrat socialist. He made no attempts to deny its intent.
Because it didn’t have a close enough appearance of the Somali flag which is blue with a single white five pointed star. Minnesota has eight points so the Somali’s feal slighted.

They dutifully look though all those, disregarded them, and then selected some monstrosity on their own.
That’s how commissions work.
The new flag says “Bow down, you stupid Whiteys! the somalis are in charge now!”

The new flag is ugly. Poor color choices and an 8-pointed star.
I suggested the most famous Minnesotan, but nobody agreed.
