Even as they’ve been massively outspent in a Democratic-leaning state, Republicans say they still have a fighting chance to defeat a redistricting referendum in Virginia next week that could help tip the balance of power in the House in this fall’s midterm elections.
Republicans have been clear-eyed about the obstacles they face in urging voters to reject a redrawn congressional map that would pave the way for Democrats to pick up as many as four seats. They are coming off an election just five months ago in which Democrats swept every statewide office on the ballot and expanded their legislative majority.
But while Democrats hold a 3-1 ad spending advantage heading into Tuesday’s special election, that edge has shrunk significantly in recent weeks. And the latest public polling has shown support for the new map with a single-digit lead — much narrower than Democrats’ recent victories in the state.
Republicans have also called on House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., former Gov. Glenn Youngkin and members of Congress to help make the case on the campaign trail in the closing stretch of the race — activity that has been met with similar firepower on the Democratic side.
“We have a lot of momentum on our side,” Rep. Jen Kiggans, R-Va., who participated in several rallies against the new map last weekend, said in an interview. “And as the funding has come in, we’ve been able to do more educating, more outreach to voters.”

Republicans aren’t fighting this? I don’t get it.
VA Republicans are a mostly moribund group of losers.
Republicans aren’t fighting this? I don’t get it.
This surprises you?
They are fighting it like crazy. The Democrats are counting on the voter fraud that worked so well for them in the last election. There is a good chance the election will be thrown out because they didn’t do it legally or the map will be declared unconstitutional by the VA Supreme Court. Fairfax County alone will have 3 Congressional districts I believe.
The ballot and the advertising is misleading at best. It’s being billed as a “temporary” measure to ensure “fairness.”
I live in Virginia and have been here continuously since 1961 and have voted here in every election after I turned 21 in 1969 (legal voting age then). The “Country Club” Republicans have been a disaster for VA going way back to the days of the late Senator John Warner.
That said, there has emerged a strong grass roots movement to fight the redistricting scam that Spanberger and her merry band of Marxists/Progressives are attempting to foist on our Commonwealth. There is new leadership in the Republican Party in VA and they are supportive of the grassroots.
Bannon’s WarRoom has been covering this over the past few weeks if you are interested in more accurate and up to date info than NBC “spin.”
There is a big GOTV “thank you” celebration being held today in Hanover County for all the grass roots workers who manned the phones and went door-to-door.
Tuesday 21 April: VOTE NO!!!
The state GOPe has done little. That has forced the local groups to step up. The only GOP radio ads here in Northern Virginia are sponsored by the Fairfax County GOP, and I hear that the locals around the state are doing the same.
I hope this comes back to bite the state GOPe in the butt, and it gets it reorganized.
Hanover County GOTV event is TOMORROW, Sunday, 19 April 2026
The VA Supreme Court is liberal.
They need to be calling in to every conservative talk radio show, local to Virginia and national, urging voter turnout...this is not only off year, but not even in November.
The money advantage the Democrats have yet again is pathetic - base continues to sit on their behinds and keep their wallets closed.
It is an article about Republicans fighting it and its effects...
A major “sleeper” issue not mentioned in the NBC report is the Governor’s recent assault on gun rights. Although the referendum is not directly about gun rights, enough gun owners are sufficiently angry to turn out in large numbers to vote against the referendum.

Roger that ...I’m one of them! Wife and I voted early a few weeks ago.
VOTE NO on Tuesday 21 April!!! Early voting ends today!!!
Vote early and often!
“Vote early and often!”

😉 Well, as often as the law will allow me.
I really like early voting as I believe it helps conservative voter turn out; however, I think we should limit it to no more than 3 weeks before election day.
