WASHINGTON, March 27 (Reuters) - Iran-linked hackers on Friday claimed they had accessed FBI Director Kash Patel's personal email inbox, publishing photographs of the director and other documents to the internet.
On their website, the hacker group Handala Hack Team said Patel "will now find his name among the list of successfully hacked victims." The hackers published a series of personal photographs of Patel sniffing and smoking cigars, riding in an antique convertible, and making a face while taking a picture of himself in the mirror with a large bottle of rum.
A Justice Department official confirmed that Patel's email had been breached and said the material published online appeared authentic. The FBI did not immediately respond to a request for comment. The hackers did not immediately respond to messages.

Kash Patel is the kind of person who would use “PASSWORD” as his password on everything.
I know the DOJ has acknowledged the breach and authenticity of the photos. However, in this age of AI, how hard would it be for hackers to claim to have breached anyone’s email and publish highly embarrassing photos they made themselves? Scary thought...
Oh no Valhalla bros!
Joe Lent’s crew?
I find this story unlikely.
More likely they got the photos off social media and then told Al Reuters they got it from the FBI internal website.
Most companies don’t have personal photos on their internal servers.
Microsoft has a vulnerability on email servers, apparently.
The issue here isn’t that the FBI director email was hacked, it’s that I doubt it was from Iran. Pakistan or China would be better bets. The CCP hires people from all over the world to hack into American computer systems.
It appears to be a personal email account.
His personal email is not used for official communications. But it might be a good place to plant disinformation to mess with the hackers’ heads.
Are you saying that the Department of Justice is lying when they acknowledged that this happened?
The description of the pictures says that they are not highly embarrassing to the extent that they are not even moderately embarrassing. If they found anything of a sexual nature, that would be embarrassing but what they describe I would laugh about if it was me.
Watch out zathras someone is getting indignant over here.
Silly me. After 26 years on FreeRepublic it still bothers me when commenters don’t bother to read the story they are commenting on.
I thought reading an article before commenting was against the rules.
I won’t tell if you won’t.
