Iran fires ballistic missiles at US-UK Diego Garcia military base, does not hit it — report

Iran fired two intermediate-range ballistic missiles at Diego Garcia but did not hit the US-U.K. military base in the Indian Ocean, the Wall Street Journal reports, citing multiple US officials.

One of the missiles failed in flight, while a US warship fired an SM-3 interceptor at the other, although it could not be determined if the interception succeeded, the newspaper says. The Journal does not specify when the missiles were fired.

Where the hell did Iran get missiles capable of reaching deep into the Indian Ocean? I assume China, but did we know they had this kind of capability, and why do they still have it?

I still have serious concerns about this escalating into ground troops, but this shows why Trump and Netanyahu have such concerns about Iran obtaining nuclear weapons - they already have massive reach with such missiles. If they can match that reach with nuclear capabilities they'd be able to dominate far more than just their Mideast neighbors.
