Trump Admin Weighs Bold Move To Seize Iran’s Economic ‘Jugular’
Daily Wire ^ | MArch 9, 2026 | Hank Berrien

The Trump administration and Israeli officials are reportedly discussing a high-stakes shift in the conflict: the direct seizure of Kharg Island, Iran’s primary economic artery.

While special operations plans originally focused on securing Iran’s 450-kilogram stockpile of highly enriched uranium, the strategic conversation has expanded to physically capturing the terminal that handles roughly 90% of Iran’s crude oil exports, according to Axios.

The ultimate goal, according to former Lockheed marketing executive Jarrod Agen, now the director of the National Energy Dominance Council, is to take control of Iran’s oil. “Ultimately, we’re not going to have to worry about these issues in the Strait of Hormuz because we’re going to get all of the oil out of the hands of terrorists,” Agen said in an interview on Fox Business.

Kharg Island is the “jugular” of the Iranian regime. Located 20 nautical miles off the coast, this small island is the only facility in the country capable of loading the supertankers that supply Iran’s primary customers, including China. Because Iran’s entire pipeline infrastructure is engineered to feed into Kharg, the regime has no viable way to reroute these volumes to smaller terminals like Jask or Bandar Abbas.

Seizing the island would offer the U.S. what sanctions never could: direct, physical control over the regime’s revenue. By controlling the point where crude reaches the world market, the U.S. gains an “on/off switch” for the Iranian economy without needing a full-scale invasion of the mainland.

Many, many, many years ago - during the Arab Oil Embargo of the 70s - me and my college roommate were watching tv coverage of the events. Both of us were vets, he was a US Army tanker, I was a USAF comms guy.

The conversation naturally drifted to “what if” US military involvement. I recall saying to him, “well if it be so, then after the shooting stops, that should be OUR oil. Every drop.”

Nothing since has altered my opinion - Gulf War, Iraq. If we shed US blood, it should be OUR oil.

I would imagine the IRGC would have the place booby trap to the max. If they can’t have it nobody can.

“I would imagine the IRGC would have the place booby trap to the max.”

Yep.

They’re getting way ahead of themselves. As long as the current regime stands none of the originally stated goals can be achieved. No Uranium. No human liberty. No eradication of missiles and program.

of course!
take it, its sitting right there in plain sight, easy to find and while I advocated USAF eliminating it, taking control might be good long-term ... to help control the oil trade.

working wonders vis a vis Communist China, its “secret” energy shipments from Kharg Island, its shipments of war material and missiles into Iran, and China’s efforts to undermine the US Dollar.

wonderful idea, let’s get it done!

we have two choices, seize the oil export depot (Kharg island) or eliminate it entirely ... while I have been advocating and awaiting USAF to take it out, taking control of it may be a good long term solution too.
USA energy supply does not come from there anyway.
markets fluctuate and will likely fluctuate up and down further but we should have no shortages at any event.

We have no choice—we must control the vital Strait of Hormuz. Terrorists have used it too long as the ultimate weapon to control the world economy. Take and hold all the islands. The marines could do this with speed and there would be little Iran could do to take them back. Yes, there would be losses but it might well end the war.

"Yes, there would be losses..."

Did you really mean for that to come it that way?

Well, thats the detail. Yes, we could hold them, but do we want or need another expensive base and liability over there? Perhaps a multinational force of ‘friendly’ arab states with mutual interest in free flow of oil? Somehow it has to be a win-win for those involved.

Agreed. We take control, use American companies, infrastructure, and workers to control it. WE do what we want with it. Then sell it to the highest bidder.

And if we’re feeling generous and whatever “regime” is in power stays quiet and does what we say - then we give them a very very small “piece of the action”. If they gotta a problem wid’ that - shoot ‘em. It worked in Star Trek.
