When President Trump sent American forces into Venezuela and walked out with Nicolás Maduro in handcuffs, the world took notice. Critics called it reckless. Supporters called it overdue. But while the chattering class debated the raid’s legality, the administration was already eyeing its next move on the global chessboard.
The Arctic has quietly become one of the most contested regions on the planet. Russian vessels patrol waters they haven’t touched in decades. Chinese “research” ships appear with uncomfortable regularity near strategic chokepoints. And no, these aren’t fever dreams from hawkish think tanks — this is happening right now. Sitting in the middle of it all is Greenland — a frozen landmass the size of Western Europe, rich in rare earth minerals, and governed by a country that can barely defend its own backyard.
Denmark has held Greenland for centuries, but Trump has made no secret of his belief that the island belongs under American protection. He first floated the idea during his first term, drawing mockery from the usual corners. Now he’s back in the Oval Office, and he’s not joking around.
According to multiple reports, the Trump administration is considering direct payments to Greenland’s 57,000 residents — somewhere between $10,000 and $100,000 per person — to encourage them to break from Denmark and join the United States. At the high end, that’s roughly $6 billion. To put that in perspective, we’ve spent more than that on foreign aid packages that bought us nothing but resentment.
From White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt:
“The acquisition of Greenland by the United States is not a new idea. The president has been very open and clear with all of you and the world that he views it as in the best interest of the United States to deter Russian and Chinese aggression in the Arctic region. That’s why his team is currently talking about what a potential purchase would look like.”
The administration is reportedly pursuing a Compact of Free Association — the same arrangement we have with Pacific island nations — which would give the U.S. military full operational access in exchange for protection and trade benefits. Secretary of State Marco Rubio is set to meet with his Danish counterpart next week, and sources say the Venezuela operation has emboldened those in the White House pushing for bolder territorial moves.
Predictably, Greenland’s prime minister is not amused. “No more pressure. No more hints. No more fantasies about annexation,” Jens-Frederik Nielsen wrote on Facebook. Denmark insists the island isn’t for sale. But here’s my question: who’s actually going to defend it? Denmark isn’t the one facing down Russian icebreakers and Chinese mining interests. We are.
Look, I get why the European establishment clutches its pearls over this. American ambition makes them nervous — always has. But this is what leadership looks like. We bought Louisiana from Napoleon. We bought Alaska from the Russians — and were mocked mercilessly for that one, until it turned out to be one of the shrewdest deals in our history. The pattern is clear: America expands when opportunity and necessity align, and the skeptics are always wrong in hindsight.
Whether Greenlanders take the money or not, the message is unmistakable. The United States is done waiting for permission to secure its interests. For those of us old enough to remember when that attitude was simply called foreign policy, it’s a welcome change.

Denmark, the little pissant country who is supposed to have invented the word “tolerance” have done nothing for the population of Greenland, in fact they have been “tolerant” of the poor conditions there. As more and more presence by Chinese and Russian ships what are they doing? Absolutely nothing. Probably trying to make deals with them. The U.S. Greenland, and the West would all be better off. Screw the Danes.
.
If a Greenlander asked Denmark, “what have you done for us lately?”, what would the Dane answer be?
Cubans would throw off communism is a heartbeat with those sorts of payments.
;^)
I’d be willing to give them half a mill apiece. I think 30 billion dollars would be a cheap price to pay to control that piece of real estate. And no, not statehood. They’re socialists and we do t need tow more permanent leftist senators
Likely, "We support your God-given right to remain part of Denmark"...
;^)
Not a good idea. Guaranteed 2 liberal Senators.
Well, I discovered I have Danish ancestors, but they moved to England and married rich noblemen who decided to become American colonists.%
Jasmin shows clips of CBC doing their part to create hysteria in Canada. Given how these propaganda arms work its likely that there are some payments on the side to promote the Danish bluff evereywhere.
As usual the anti-Trumpers, that always vote against the American citizen, have heard their marching orders and propagate the nonsense here. Seriously people, calm down. Its not that big of a story.
Two previous presidents have tried to purchase Greenland and it seems Denmark has been trying to hold out for the better price. Trump is just trying to cut out the middle man.
They arent guaranteed anything. We dont have to make them a state.
Does Greenland have a national park the libs could get excited about? Or oil fields they could put off limits to drilling?
Are there are any sources as to how much of a presence by Chinese and Russian ships have increased over the past 5-10 years?
....
The extraction of minerals in Greenland shall not go forward.
Judge Leftist Nutcase
Hell, they'd do it for a nice steak dinner and a new set of tires for their '55 Chebys.
Could we have another $100K, each?
And Florida beach houses!
“what have you done for us lately?”, what would the Dane answer be?
Probably: free education, healthcare, housing & heat
They won’t be a state.
That’s absolutely right.
