Ex-Sen. Ben Sasse announces Stage 4 pancreatic cancer diagnosis, says he is ‘gonna die’
NY Post ^ | 12/23/2025 | Samuel Chamberlain

Former GOP Sen. Ben Sasse revealed Tuesday that he has been diagnosed with Stage 4 pancreatic cancer and does not have long to live.

In a lengthy statement on X, the 53-year-old said bluntly: “Last week I was diagnosed with metastasized, stage-four pancreatic cancer, and am gonna die.”

“Death is a wicked thief, and the bastard pursues us all,” the former senator from Nebraska added. “Still, I’ve got less time than I’d prefer. This is hard for someone wired to work and build, but harder still as a husband and a dad.”

The announcement drew an outpouring of support for Sasse, led by Vice President JD Vance, who wrote: “I’m very sorry to hear this Ben. May God bless you and your family.”

“So very saddened to hear the news about Ben Sasse this morning,” wrote his former Senate colleague, Deb Fischer (R-Neb.). “I know he will face this difficult challenge anchored in his strong Christian faith and bolstered by the love of family and friends. Ben, I am keeping you and your loved ones in my prayers.”

“I’m sorry Ben,” added Rep. Jared Moskowitz (D-Fla.). “My dad had the same diagnosis. It was a death sentence. It humbles you quickly. We got 18 months together, and then silence. You wouldn’t wish this on your worst enemy. We have not made enough progress on pancreatic cancer detection nor treatment.”

Awful. So weird to think that when he first was elected, I thought how lucky to look so young at his age. I’m 3 years older and look it. I wish him the best.

Pancreatic cancer is terrible and swift. A family member was diagnosed with it and died less than 4 months later.

Lost Uncle John and my best friend Dave to it. Uncle John 3 months, Dave 2 years. School acquaintance Louie is still alive after many years. He and his doctor are hopeful. He mentioned Ivermectin and radiation in his treatment. I spoke to him a month ago.

My wife had stage 1b. On the first visit to the oncologist her prognosis was a 40% chance she would live five years. That was a gut punch.

I can only imagine what at stage 4 diagnosis would feel like.

It is a horrible disease that just doesn’t show itself until it’s too late. And it’s a horrible ending.

Prayers up for him and his family.

From the article: Sasse was elected to the Senate in 2014 and was re-elected to a second term in 2020. Weeks later, he was one of seven Republican senators who voted to convict Donald Trump of incitement of insurrection in his second impeachment trial...

Sounds like a leftist.

Likely related, from 2022: According to his communications director James Wegmann, Sen. Ben Sasse was "vaccinated and boosted".

My Dad got it at age 51. Two years later it metastasized.

Sasse will be the same age.

Lost my best friend to this monster.

Just to clarify, the monster you're referring to is pancreatic cancer, not Ex-senator Ben Sasse, correct?

Unfortunately, not even Judge Boasberg himself could stop this.

Cancer can go to hell. It does not follow us into heaven, it goes right to hell.

That’s my feelings on cancer anyway.

Pancreatic cancer is terrible and swift

It's my understanding (I could be wrong) that pancreatic cancer isn't necessarily more aggressive than many other types of cancer. Rather, the problem with it is that it either asymptomatic or mistaken for something more benign (e.g. diabetes) in its early stages, so that by the time it's diagnosed, it's already stage 4 and metastasized. Whereas other cancers cause pain or create visible lumps/lesions early on.
