If this is the police chief, this city is in big trouble.
hey, maybe the shooter identifies as (they/them). Another angry furry. The police chief might prove us all wrong.
English is his second language.................
If this is the police chief, this city is in big trouble. "
====================
From a Google search of "them definition"
pronoun: them
1. used as the object of a verb or preposition to refer to two or more people or things previously mentioned or easily identified.
"I bathed the kids and read them stories"
used after the verb “to be” and after “than” or “as”.
"you think that's them?"
referring to a person of unspecified sex.
"how well do you have to know someone before you call them a friend?"
referring to a person whose gender identity does not correspond to the traditional binary opposition of male and female.
"Rowan stopped being a mod on this blog, but we still contact them"

What's the problem? Since the sex of the shooter is unspecified it seems that the chief's use of the word "them" is appropriate...according to what I was taught in Junior High English class.
