Nearly 44% of the 16,000 truck driving schools in the U.S. may be forced to close if they lose their students after a review by the federal Transportation Department found they may not be complying with government requirements.
The Transportation Department said Monday that it plans to revoke the accreditation of nearly 3,000 schools unless they can comply with training requirements in the next 30 days. The targeted schools must notify students that their accreditation is in jeopardy. Another 4,500 schools are being warned they may face similar action.
Schools that lose accreditation will no longer be able to issue the certificates showing a driver completed training that are required to get a license, so students are likely to abandon those schools.
Separately, the Department of Homeland Security is auditing trucking firms in California owned by immigrants to verify the status of their drivers and whether they are qualified to hold a commercial driver’s license.

@SecDuffy 🚨HUGE ALERT🚨
@USDOT is giving THOUSANDS of trucking schools 30 days to comply with federal rules for drivers or they may be forced to close down.
The days of a “Wild Wild West” trucking industry are over under the Trump administration
16,000 truck driving schools in the U.S.
Sikh workforce makes up about 40% of truck driving on the West Coast and about 20% nationwide. Advocacy groups estimate about 150,000 Sikh truck drivers work in the U.S.
“Sikh and immigrant truckers with spotless records are being treated like suspects while they keep America’s freight moving,” the United Sikhs group said. “When federal agencies frame lawful, licensed drivers as risks, it doesn’t improve safety — it fuels xenophobia, harassment, and even violence on the road. Any policy built on fear instead of facts endangers families, civil rights, and the national supply chain.”
My son earned his CDL through a local community college program.
He’s American, drug free and can speak and read English. Employed for life.
I’d be comfortable just rounding it to half.
They know the rules. If they fail to comply, shut them down. No warnings, no threats...just do it.

Kudos to your son! There are many young men and women (citizens) who would love to have those jobs that have been taken by the illegal aliens who are causing havoc on our roads. I know of many families who made a solid middle class living with the hubby on the road during the week (all retired now). It is just one more career that our government has allowed to be taken from American citizens.
No warnings, no threats...just do it.

I don’t disagree but things to be done
in an order that doesn’t shut down the
transportation industry across the USA
ONLY 44%?

to be in some order to keep things moving across the USA
Its another DEI set up which the government was probably promoting in the previous administration and others for the purposes of hiring immigrants.
Shut them down, now...
He did OTR for a couple years but didn’t like the lifestyle.
He now works for a large landscape supply wholesaler. He’s home every night and loves what he does.
Get rid of them...
No driving school can turn them into “good & safe” drivers...
FTA - “”many trucking schools.....may not be complying with government requirements.””
Except in Kalifornia, where it appears that there are very few “requirements.”
Many vocational schools/students have access to Federal loans and grants. Easy money.
Here in SW Pennsylvania, truck driving schools train actual Americans, vets them and gives them background checks. You still need to pass a rigorous road test and written test before you get your CDL. The schools compete for students by advertising their graduation rates. I checked out four of them when I was considering a career change. With the crappiest roads in the nation, we don’t want unsafe drivers on our roadways.
