Former Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) paid tribute Thursday to her late father, former Vice President Dick Cheney, as a great statesman who put country over party and as a loving father who inspired in his family a deep sense of patriotism.
In her eulogy at her father’s funeral service, Liz Cheney recalled comments the late vice president made to her a few years ago, reflecting on his 40-year career in public service and his love of being an American.
The former vice president said, according to his daughter: “The path I had traveled was partly due to the circumstance of my birth. Not that I had been born into a powerful or privileged family — I wasn’t — but I was born an American, a blessing, surely among life’s greatest.”
She said her father, in 1963, heard then-President John F. Kennedy urge students to dedicate their lives to public service while speaking at the University of Wyoming.

Oh, so liberals love the Cheneys now?
Dick had five Vietnam draft deferments, like Joey Biden.
He was a giant dick, alright.
Dick died from Long TDS.
Well he was a giant something.
A giant SOB
Dick is now a reliable Democrat vote for years to come. Of course, the libs love that.
People who will literally do or say anything for political power
Wonder if Cheney left a donation to the “Wounded Warriors” in his will.
Madcow, Fauci and Carville were sitting together today
They are man of the year until they get power. Then they sell out.
There’s an old Irish joke about a village gathered for the wake of a local man thoroughly disliked by everyone. The priest asks the assembled villagers, “Would anyone care to say a few words about the departed?” Silence from the crowd. Priest: “Certainly someone must have something good to say about this man?” Finally a man steps forward and says, “His brother was worse.”
What’s nicest thing that I can say about Dick Cheney? His daughter was worse.
I know this is a serious ceremony, and Liz, his eldest daughter is speaking. I know that, but when you think about Liz in all other occasions, I don’t think I have ever seen her openly smile about anything, unless it is a smile of Schaudenfreude, where she is inwardly gloating over a something negative happening to a fellow Republican.
It was no surprise to see Michelle Obama there, and Toto too! “Toto” being what remains of the bedraggled “W”.
One day, we will all know the story behind GWB’s appearance of steady deterioration since leaving politics.
I agree. A huge pain in the ass.
No shit, Sherlock.
Not that I had been born into a powerful or privileged family — I wasn’t —
No. Of course.not. Perish the thought.
but I was born an American, a blessing, surely among life’s greatest.”
Mm-hm. <rest of comment deleted by texas eagle because moderator would remove it anyway >
Miserable, entitled people living in a bubble, which is getting smaller and smaller.
I just threw up in my mouth a little....
It's a joke that tells itself...Giant Dick.
