California Just Proved Republicans Right on Illegal Immigrant Health Care: The Numbers are Staggering

California's Medicaid-for-illegals disaster couldn't come at a worse time for Democrats. After grinding the federal government to a halt for more than 40 days — partly to reopen a loophole letting taxpayers foot the bill for illegal immigrant health care — the Golden State is serving up a perfect example of why that's a terrible idea.

The numbers are staggering.

According to a report from the Epoch Times, California's spending on health care for illegal immigrants through Medi-Cal is now projected to hit $10 billion annually from the state's General Fund. That figure is more than double what officials initially estimated.

The Legislative Analyst's Office released findings in October showing this cost will consume approximately 25% of state funding for Medi-Cal, California's version of Medicaid.

To put that $10 billion in perspective, it's roughly three times the $3.3 billion allocated to the California Highway Patrol and more than twice the $4.5 billion for CalFire. Around 1.7 million Medi-Cal enrollees are illegal immigrants, representing roughly 11% of total enrollees. The program provides health care coverage to poor residents, with adults earning 138% or less of the Federal Poverty Level qualifying for coverage. Children are eligible with income up to 266% of that level. The program covers everything from doctor's visits and hospital stays to mental health treatments.

Total Medi-Cal costs are expected to reach $197 billion in the current budget period running from July 2025 through June 2026. The federal government covers slightly more than half of those costs, but here's where things get particularly interesting. Unlike Medicare, which payroll taxes and premiums fund, Medi-Cal relies on federal and state tax dollars, as well as local taxes and funds. California’s General Fund entirely funds comprehensive coverage for illegal immigrants,

Law of supply and demand. Make the price zero and the demand goes to infinity.

Y’all have to wonder why it is so important to spend all that money on people that aren’t even supposed to be here.

If you want to really raise your blood pressure... contemplate how much of Medi-Cal (and other states’ medicaid) goes to pay for birthing anchor babies on our nickel... bet it’s a HUGE percentage of overall “health care” for criminal aliens.

The idea is to make the general public pay for the healthcare of the illegals and not their employers, because that's just not what the elitists want.

Since they aren’t supposed to be here legally, employers cannot legally hire them, so aren’t under any legal obligation to provide medical.
Start arresting employers, You will get some reaction.
Cases may get dismissed, but it gets someones attention.
Illegals may work cheaper, but lawyers, jail, court time,
and hassles isn’t cheaper. Cops do it all the time.

MN governor Walz depleted an 18 Billion dollar surplus in less than 2 years. Now, he won’t respond to the US Gov request for accounting on SNAP & other programs.
Pretty sure I know where the 18B went, in addition to a ton of Federal $$.

And now they want to become a one-party state because they’re so good at making life better.

Force the illegals to vote for the party that gives them free stuff or risk losing it Simple.

This is the umpteenth example of the utter incompetence of Gavin Newsom. That’s why you’ve gotta take polls painting the fool as some kind of frontrunner for 2028 with a grain of salt. All much of the public nationwide knows of NewScum is his Patrick Bateman appearance combined with his newfound status as the Dems’ leading anti-Trump troll. In a debate with JD Vance, NewScum would be utterly destroyed with facts like the ones presented here. When presented with the reality of NewScum’s policy failures, the case for not letting NewScum do to the country what he’s done to CA is likely going to be quite persuasive. In a sense he’s weaker than Harris. He’s dumber than her, and as the state’s chief executive he OWNS the state’s missteps in a way that she didn’t as AG or Senator.

"... California's spending on health care for illegal immigrants through Medi-Cal is now projected to hit $10 billion annually from the state's General Fund. That figure is more than double what officials initially estimated."

Just to clarify this fact:
California's spending on health care for illegal immigrants through Medi-Cal is now projected to hit $10 billion annually from the state's General Fund. That figure is more than double what officials initially estimated.

Now, it would be nice to hear the numbers from NY, MD, NM, IL, MA, CT, and DC...

So the medical care is rationed using the way Communists ration stuff - long waiting lines!

Since Obama, the waiting times for appointments and lifesaving procedures have been stretching longer and longer!
People are dying, waiting for help!

Like everywhere, where there is “free” healthcare.
