Two-time space traveler and billionaire Jared Isaacman had been on the cusp of becoming NASA’s next administrator last May when President Donald Trump yanked his nomination.
Trump has since changed his mind.
“Jared’s passion for Space, astronaut experience, and dedication to pushing the boundaries of exploration, unlocking the mysteries of the universe, and advancing the new Space economy, make him ideally suited to lead NASA into a bold new Era,” Trump wrote Tuesday on a post on Truth Social announcing he was putting Isaacman back in a position to lead the agency.
Isaacman had sat through the Senate confirmation hearings in the spring and signs pointed to a bipartisan approval of his nomination to become the 15th administrator, taking over the role vacated by Bill Nelson, who left the position at the end of the Biden administration.
But then Trump had a falling out with Elon Musk, with whom Isaacman has had a close business relationship having flown with SpaceX twice on private orbital missions.
At the time, Trump cited Isaacman’s past donations to Democratic politicians as the reason why, but Isaacman said he was more likely the victim of degraded Trump-Musk dynamic.

Despite the nomination, 47’s on track to permanently close NASA.
Musk’s Minion?
It's the old "too many cooks in the kitchen".
Sure, put the man demanded by NASA’s biggest contractor to be the head of NASA right on in.
It has more to do with this:

Fortunately, this guy was sent off to be an ambassador to some country, so he’s not there to put a wedge between Trump and Musk.
“I guess Trump and Musk are ok again.”
On balance, a good thing.
Double good.
A guy with a proven track record in space flight - that’s how you become a billionaire in the industry; people need satellites in orbit and you provide that service - will lead NASA! He’s a young guy, but he’s worked his ENTIRE LIFE in Aerospace and obviously been quite good at it!
This is so typical of the MSM framing. A guy EXTREMELY successful at a perfect fit for NASA *but oh noes! He’s a billionaire!*
I’m going to sound Michael Scott from the Office writing a too long headline, but how about “Wow! Trump Administration Lures Perfect Fit Candidate to Lead NASA Back to Glory Days!”
