They will, in a second and it’s better to be out front than whining in the background.

The elected a murderer, an AG that dreams of killing his opponents and two governors that are okay with killing babies that are alive at birth. Why does anyone think that they would hesitate a second to do this when the opportunity presents itself.

The democrats certainly regretted the ending the filibuster on judicial nominations.

Will not read that nonsense.

What is so horrible about outlawing mail-in ballots for next year and requiring proof of citizenship to vote? The horror!!!

The democrats have already tried to nuke the filibuster and were stopped by two democrat senators who are no longer in office.

Whenever the democrats take back the Senate, nuking the filibuster will be accomplished on Day One.

Then it is over except for Civil War.

Again, Republicans are so stupid, or complicit.

They might. That's not a good reason to do it for them.

They absolutely will. They have said repeatedly they will do this as soon as they regain majority control of the Senate.

There is no point in being nice to the Democrats. They do not return such favors. If (when?) they get a Senate majority; it will be winner take all. See California or Colorado, or Massachusetts for worked examples. We had best do what we can while we can.

"By any means necessary", as our enemies like to say. We ought to believe them when they say that and act accordingly.

"Do unto others before they do unto you".

Besides, the Republicans do not win anything using the filibuster. They get a bunch of promises for the future which the Democrats subsequently refuse to deliver in exchange for substantial concessions in the present which are everything the Democrats wanted in the first place.

The senior Republican leaders are terrible negotiators. They seem like junior Democrats, making only a pretense of alternatives and opposition.

Government shutdowns always get blamed on the Republicans. The Democrats are doing that right now and lots of people want to believe them. Lots of people do believe them. Lots of people want "free stuff" and that is what the Democrats promise.

And when the money for "free stuff" runs out, it is always the Republicans who are to blame. What a great system for the Democrats.

We need an end to the farce of "continuing resolutions". It is simply a grifting process.

The problem with nuking the filibuster is that feckless Republicans won’t do a damn thing with all of that awesome power once they have it.

The Democrats will, though.

You are completely correct. The idea that the Senate minority can declare a filibuster and then go back to their own states for long weekends is ridiculous. Any flight that carries a senator should be one of the ones canceled.

The squishy dickless wing of the GOP is against it.

Well they haven’t nuked in over two hundred years.

I think the filibuster is the only thing keeping the tyranny of a small majority from ramming through whatever they want.

I think getting rid of it is a really bad idea and very shortsighted.

In fact, I would favor having a supermajority type of government where laws would need two thirds (or even 60%)in both houses to pass. Think how many fewer laws we would have. And that would be a good thing, since all laws either force you to do something or keep you from doing something.

FOR ONCE, let the GOP be strategic.

Trump appears to have brought strategy at least to the WH.

The dynamics are changing dramatically at an increasing rate, however, and there is no guarantee our election system will be used as intended (i.e., elections by well-informed American citizen voters).

What the Dems did to President Trump during his first term and tried to do to ex-president Trump should serve as "fair notice".

How many here could think the now obviously corrupted Dem party would not do whatever it could to retain whatever power it may gain in the near term.

If anything has outlived its value for use by reasonable people, it is the filibuster; now it could be used as a tool to defeat us.

Democrats are shamelessly weaponizing the government. This is the only way to stop them.

Thought experiment: What if they did do away with it and could push thru all the wonderful things Trump has suggested and we would all agree on...how many think the Repubs would then actually do it?
Or, more likely, find lame excuses to not pass anything and then give this tool to the Dems?

They can change the rules so that when the budget has not been passed by the beginning of the fiscal year, to suspend the filibuster rule after 15 cloture votes have failed or a budget has not been passed for 30 days.

That sounds like a very reasonable alternative to total elimination of the filibuster.

It doesn’t matter what the Republican do concerning this episode.

The instant the Democrats regain 51 votes in the Senate they’re dropping the filibuster and ramming through everything.

I can’t believe you think the Democrat have any sense of fairness or morals.

only nuke it if they will use the power to pass election reform requiring all states to verify the US citizenship of all voters, and stripping ALL rights from illegal aliens including the right to free healthcare at emergency rooms the Supreme Court gave them that has partly destroyed healthcare at hospitals.

What would stop Dems from Nuking it once they got control?

You know they will, if they can, they have said so, and want to pack the court.

Let our government reclaim its foundational design: a robust system of three co-equal branches, bound by checks and balances, with the judiciary serving as the vigilant guardian of constitutional fidelity. This architecture, envisioned by our Founding Fathers, was meant to foster deliberation, compromise, and progress—not paralysis at the hands of a fractious minority.

Today, the power of a slim faction in one chamber to grind the entire machinery of state to a halt—triggering shutdowns that endanger lives, livelihoods, and national security—betrays that sacred intent. It undermines the republic’s promise of representative democracy, where the people’s will, expressed through elected majorities, should propel governance forward, tempered by thoughtful opposition but not derailed by obstruction.

The procedural quirks of the House and Senate, once pragmatic tools for measured debate in an era of quill pens and horse-drawn couriers, now stifle the very discourse they were meant to enable. In the Founders’ time, physical proximity and limited information flows demanded extended floor time to air grievances and build consensus. But that world has vanished. The digital revolution—unleashing the internet’s boundless forums, social media’s instantaneous reach, television’s vivid broadcasts, and radio’s pervasive echo—has transformed how ideas ignite, evolve, and persuade. Legislators can now rally public scrutiny, forge alliances across aisles, and dissect policies in real time, rendering archaic delays not just obsolete, but antithetical to effective stewardship.

It is time to retire the filibuster, that relic of a slower age, and restore the Senate’s capacity for decisive action. By doing so, we honor the Founders’ vision: a government that deliberates swiftly yet wisely, adapts to our interconnected reality, and serves the enduring aspirations of a dynamic republic.

It seems inevitable that it will eventually happen. If we do it, there is a good chance that we can fix the corrupt voting that makes it possible for Democrats to win many elections. If we can have honest elections and build our ranks, then we can just put it back later. I say we do it. We need so many changes in government right now and this is the only way we can do it.

Are you living in the past?

Today is a new day, in case you obviously haven’t noticed.

A Muslim Communist is the next mayor of NYC. Charlie Kirk was assonated. Trump was almost assonated TWICE!, At least six cabinet members and their families are living in military housing for their safety.

And you think the RABID Demonrats won’t revoke cloture?

We MUST do away with cloture NOW while we have the power. We could lose the House or the Senate in the midterms, neutering the rest of the Trump administration.
