The GOP Loss Is Not a Big Deal
The American Spectator ^ | November 6, 2025, 10:07 PM | Jeffrey Lord

Posted on 11/07/2025 3:20:51 PM PST by E. Pluribus Unum

The headlines were predictable.

In the wake of the 2025 election here’s a sampling:

The New York Times: “Republicans Point Fingers After Their Losses, but Not at Trump,” with the subtitle, “Casting around for culprits, leaders in the party blamed their candidates, the government shutdown and a weak economic message.”

Politico: “‘Not a great night’: Republicans point fingers after blowout off-year election losses”

The Hill: “GOP blame game begins after election rout.”

And on and on — and on and on and on — go the similar headlines of the dark ill-fortune of the GOP as a result of this week’s election.

Alas for the critics, they seem not to be familiar with American political history. Let’s take a spin through election history. Here are three examples:

1964: Democrat President Lyndon Johnson wiped the floor with GOP presidential nominee, Arizona Senator Barry Goldwater. The results:

1966: But a mere two years later?  A serious GOP rebound. Republicans: + 47 House seats, + 3 Senate seats

And 14 years later?

1980: Reagan Electoral Votes: 489; Carter Electoral Votes: 49.

1982: But two years later? A serious Democrat rebound: Democrats: + 26 House seats; Republicans: – 26 House seats.

As noted, one could go on and on and on with similar examples, and what one sees is a decided historical pattern. That pattern being that when Democrats or Republicans get clobbered in an election, they can and frequently do rebound in the very next election — or, at a minimum, the election after that.

All of which is to say, the current liberal media headlines like those above of the GOP loss in the 2025 elections can and most likely, if the historical pattern of decades holds, will be reversed in the next elections...

Fly in the ointment was 2024 was supposed to represent a bit of a paradigm shift with traditionally De demographics shifting toward Republicans. At least in low turn out off year elections that didn’t happen I put a lot of hope on the midterm RNC convention next year to tilt the table.

But the RATS will use it, and be emboldened to steal the midterms.

The majority of democrat cities are run by commies. Why would NYC be any different?

For example, Chicago is run by Mayor Brandon Johnson, a member of the DSA. He has an approval rating of 6%. He needs 200 bodyguards to stay in office. The 6% approval reflects perfectly the political polls showing that 6% of Americans identify as progressives.

Yea because the Republicans, as usual, misread the results. Trump has a mandate, Trump won over black voters, Trump made major games, Trump closed the gap everywhere. The Republicans are bucking Trump like they actually have a mandate. They will continue to lose because they’ll continue to think that Trumps gains are their gains. Also, I said a week or two ago, the Rats would win the races and the Democrats would misinterpret it as a mandate to attack Trump and it’s not that at all. This has gotten predictable and boring.

OTOH, I said the Rats would win and Dems’ll misinterpret

Interesting.

Like my father told me, the pendulum swings left and then it swings right. Unfortunately it never swings as far right as it did before, and always swings a little more left with every cycle.

You’re probably right about that, but not boring to me. I wonder if the pipe bomb is really about to explode.

The Overton Window drifts further and further Left over time.

The problem isn’t that the Democrats won, it’s the kind of Democrats that won that is the problem.

One thing that holds true in every statewide and national election is that charisma wins. It can be physical attractiveness or a charismatic personality, or both, but winning without some measure of charisma is a near impossibility. Winsome has zero charisma of any kind.
