What happened to MAHA?

A couple of things...

President Trump, RFK Jr. and the rest of the Administration are keenly aware that obesity is the root cause of many chronic illnesses.

Dr. Oz talked to RFK Jr. about the benefits of the GLP-1 family of meds. Specifically, the GLP-1 medications are effective, and benefits outweigh the risks due to obesity.

Being overweight IS a health risk, so no big prob with insurance paying for it. A friend of mine lost half her body weight with one of those drugs. Who knew that a beautiful woman lived under all that fat. Really amazing.

My husband as a type 2 diabetic takes Monjouro. I can’t say there has been a change in his diet in the nearly a year he’s been taking it. But I have noticed a difference in his appetite. He is many times eating smaller portion sizes and/or fewer times going back for seconds. It’s not a shout from the mountains noticeable but the scales are telling the results.

I understand Mounjaro is more effective than Ozempic. Both meds are known to not only decrease appetite, resulting in smaller food intake during meals. They are also known to reduce cravings (aka food noise). I’ve heard anecdotes that the meds have reduced alcohol cravings in those who may otherwise drink to excess.

Dr. Oz? He is a quack. It’s best to put people on this medication for the rest of their lives? This was barely researched enough for people with Diabetes, but it certainly has not been researched enough for weight loss. This is a cash grab, because celebrities pushed it.

Yes, but how come doctors never recommend lifestyle change? (A vanishingly small number actually do that. It's just something that happens on TV.)

Another medication that hasn't been properly tested for safety? An excuse not to remove all sorts of chemicals off shelves? People in the U.S. eat 70% processed foods, but we don't want to lose money by stopping that? Better companies make more money by pushing MORE pills that are celebrity endorsed?

I thin it should be studied for gambling addiction, but we now nothing about the safety. (Or we just ignore it.)

Nobody is forcing you to take GLP-1 meds. Your arguments have enough holes to drive an 18-wheeler truck through. I particularly enjoy your last sentence about cash grab and celebrities. ROFL!

It’s 100% true. GLP-1 was a drug for diabetes, then celebrities started getting it prescribed off label for weight loss, then the media ran with it. That is the only reason it’s being promoted as a weight loss drug.

Nobody is forcing you to take GLP-1 meds.

MAHA was supposed to make people healthier, not the balance sheet of pharmaceuticals companies.

But only used in moderation and in conjuction with a good diet and moderate exercise.

Unless there is a health risk to this, I’d probably try to alternate in losing 5lbs on the stuff and then 10lbs naturally until my target weight is reached. I’m not comfortable with the idea of being on the stuff full-time.

Yes, it is a question of risk of being obese vs being on this stuff.

Oh, I agree with you on the no taxes on tips garbage.

I do understand that people who have been morbidly obese for years can benefit from a medication which will knock out the food noise (addiction), break the cycle of all day grazing, 2nd and 3rd helpings at meals, and allow them to lose enough weight to be able to exercise.

No need for ozempic, etc. It does more harm than removing the crap in food would do. We need to slash fake foods and additives not add more Rx and make it easier for people to eat crap still harm their bodies but look slimmer. Trump making poor decisions. He and others trying to move this forward will have to answer to a Higher Authority for not doing the right thing, encouraging real food not take a drug without a person cleaning up/taking responsibility for and changing their food choices and amounts.

Whatever happened to eating better, IOW real food, and putting down the ^&#% phone and getting out and getting some exercise?

My sister is obese and diabetic, and she is on one of these drugs, but convincing her to eat better is an exercise in futility.

And after sitting at her desk job all day, she sits on the couch most evenings and watches TV. At this point, she can’t even walk a couple city blocks. It’s so difficult to watch someone on such a self-destructive course and not be able to talk sense to them.

Yea, it’s a cash grab, but for people who are obese and have ankle, knee and back issues and can’t exercise it is a life changer. Hopefully Trump will get these prices down.
