Democratic Gov. JB Pritzker on Monday said he was still deciding whether he’d sign legislation that would permit doctors to help terminally ill people end their lives, after the bill narrowly passed the General Assembly last week.
“It was something that I didn’t expect and didn’t know it was going to be voted on, so we’re examining it even now,” Pritzker said.
The Democratic-run state Senate, before dawn broke Friday, voted with the bare minimum 30 votes to allow mentally competent, terminally ill adults the right to access life-ending prescription medication with physician oversight. The vote sent the bill to the governor’s desk. But opponents, including disability advocates and the Catholic Church, have pushed back against the measure, saying it could lead to discrimination, coercion and abuse.
Pritzker, who is running for a third term next year and is widely considered a potential 2028 contender for the Democratic presidential nomination, on Monday said he’s still taking input on the controversial bill and has already “heard a lot” from advocates backing the legislation. Speaking to reporters at an unrelated event at the Philip J. Rock Center and School in Glen Ellyn for deaf-blind children, Pritzker signaled an openness to the advocates’ arguments but was noncommittal about signing the legislation into law.

This man has no principles. He will decide to veto or not based on political expediency.
This guy is fat, dumb and evil
As long as the fat bass turd is the first one to use it, I’d be fine with it.
Leftoids have a fascination with killing their subjects.
“Hey,you know sis....Grandma’s getting pretty forgetful...and her house is worth about $950,000 in today’s market”.
Too many people like to kill. Don’t let them. Live. Enjoy life. Your life.
Why not? They already have approved a right to kill.
Today it’s voluntary, tomorrow it’s mandatory….
Because he doesn’t have anything better to do.
So the governor had no idea what legislation was being proposed, debated and voted on till it hit his desk? What a load of malarkey!!
Voluntary drive-by targets?
Whatever else it may be, it is a death cult.
He should consider the right to live.
He doesn't know what is going on in his own State, yet he has his ear to the ground on national issues, according to him that is.
so we’re examining it even now? So he has no moral views but just has to decide if it is good for ‘him’.
Is that WITH or WITHOUT the toilets, JB?
I believe each individual should such a choice, with not form of proxy allowed. I know that I would not want my life prolonged if I were in pain and I was going to die no matter the treatment. I’d say you have to right to keep me alive.
But once it is officially recognized as a medical treatment -- well just look at Canada.
