Federal prosecutors have announced the indictment and arrest of 20 individuals, most of them sworn law enforcement officers, in the Mississippi Delta region for allegedly conspiring with Mexican drug cartels to smuggle narcotics into the United States.
U.S. Attorney Clay Joyner for the Northern District of Mississippi made the announcement at a press conference on Thursday.
“We’re here today to talk about some incredibly serious allegations that mark a monumental betrayal of public trust, to announce the indictment and arrest of 20 individuals, most of them law enforcement officers in the Mississippi Delta region. The indictments generally allege the taking of bribes to attempt to aid and abet drug trafficking, as well as associated crimes,” said Joyner.
The announcement detailed the results of a years-long federal investigation and sting operation in the Mississippi Delta region, resulting in the indictment and arrest of 20 individuals, including 14 current or former law enforcement officers and six co-conspirators.
The serious allegations and charges included: Accepting bribes: The officers allegedly accepted bribes ranging from $20,000 to $37,000 in exchange for police protection. Aiding drug trafficking: The defendants provided armed escort services for what they believed were large quantities of illegal drugs for people they believed were drug traffickers (who were actually undercover FBI agents). Conspiracy: The scheme involved a network of corruption that extended across multiple counties in Mississippi and into Tennessee. “The indictments generally allege the taking of bribes to attempt to aid and abet drug trafficking, as well as associated crimes,” Joyner added.
“The first indictment that I’ll talk about involves a conspiracy whereby law enforcement officers and their accomplices are alleged to have agreed to provide safe passage for illegal narcotics and drug proceeds through the Mississippi Delta region, and ultimately, on the last of those runs, into Memphis itself. They did this in return for bribe payments — for money. They are also indicted for related firearms offenses and, of course, individual counts related to specific runs throughout the Mississippi Delta.”
FBI Deputy Director Andrew Bailey stated that the accused officers had betrayed the public’s trust.
“They betrayed the trust that the public placed in them, disgraced the badge and undermined the hard work of good law enforcement officers across this state and region,” Bailey told the news conference.
WATCH:
P
These perpetrators should do some serious time behind bars.
Waste, abuse and fraud 24/7. Kick them out of the world.
hotty totty
The Delta. I wonder how much less is coming through there since boats started exploding.
I’ve long suspected that this was happening here.
Not as typical and widespread as in Mexico.
But, it’s was inevitable.
“If you can’t beat them, join them.” Jerks.
Should be considered Treason
Addendum:
I am also convinced that it not limited to law enforcement.
I believe a significant number of politicians have also been bought or intimidated by the cartels.
Helping the drug cartels sure beats chasing thieving illegal alien miggy invaders, right chief?
No pictures of the lawmen that were identified. This is the Delta and Bennie Thompson’s congressional district.
Anyone ever wonder how retired police officers who earned on average $60,000/year for 30 years manage to buy $3 million dollar luxury homes on the Gulf coast?
I’m a little suspicious of sting operations. I would have preferred to read that they took bribes from actual cartel people and that they rolled up the cartel network at the same time that they busted the dirty cops. As it is they just untrapped a bunch of idiot cops.
I am all about them being prosecuted, they are trash. Being the devi’s advocate here for a minute: since all of the trash we have allowed into this country the last 30 odd years these cockroach cartel people are everywhere so kind of like the old mob, they know where you live and you r kids go to school how do you combat that when the “offer” is made? We can’t just kill them because we are a country of laws (cough... cough) but we should. Judge and prosecutors let them out with impunity when they are arrested. So, what do you do when others on your own force are on the take already. Your only option is to quit that day and move somewhere else and wait tables.
We have a problem that will only be cured by violence and it needs to be a one-way street from us to them, but it will never happen.
Just saying... but yes corrupt leo’s need to go down but start with the FBI, DEA and work down hill.
For cash!!
Is it them yogi?
Some are pictured here...
This will extend to the Memphis PD and politicians. That’s why these blue states and cities don’t want the Feds around.
The same can be said of some FBI agents, FBI Deputy Director Andrew Bailey.
Will you prosecute them with the same rigor?
