Most Americans can manage some adversity, others just can’t. Those are the ones who make the news.
Government employees have always been bottom of the barrel types who could not cut it in the Private sector.
Dear Public Sector,
Welcome to real life.
Yours,
The Private Sector
“””She had hoped to drive for DoorDash to supplement her income, but her car was repossessed after she missed a loan deadline because of the shutdown. “””
I’d say she was deep in debt long before the shutdown. Cars don’t get repossessed that fast.
They can repossess after one payment is missed but usually they wait 90 days.
In this case the company knows that the government will reopen at some point and they will get paid so mostly they will tack penalties and interest on to the loan and do nothing.
If you are a good long time customer they often will not even do that.
Hang on Cynthia! I’m sending a waaaambulance to your house right now, along with the world’s smallest violin.
Nailed it.
Funny how none of these federal workers have a stocked refrigerator or pantry or money in savings.

I heard that dancing nurses help make everything better.
I can’t imagine your car being repossessed immediately with just one missed payment, unless you were a very bad risk with a super high interest rate because of past financial failures.
Either that or you’re just a liar.
They’re better than the dancing fatties in the Ozempic commercials.
I don’t remember the Washington post writing any sob stories about the people that were fired for not taking the vaccine. I don’t think I hate the left enough.
exactly.
Liars. No back-up food, money, or help from relatives? Pure BS. And if you are that ill prepared, perhaps you’re too stupid to survive.
Most lenders will work with government employees knowing that they, unlike many in the private sector, will get back pay once the resolution is passed. This is also where church relationships can pay big dividends.
Or you were already two payments behind, on Oct. 1st.
So much for setting aside a 3-6 month contingency fund. Sure some legitimately just can’t do it. MAny are mad at every politician with an “R” next to their name.
None will look themselves in the mirror and consider that the $12 a day for Starbucks coffee and a muffin was not a wise decision. Or going out to lunch 4-5 days a week at $15-20 a day wasn’t smart either.
You have to treat yourself now and then, but most of these sad sacks think that needs to be 24/7.
screw them.
Uh, oh.
