Mark Carney has delivered a sharp insult to Donald Trump after trade negotiations were canceled over an ad featuring former president Ronald Reagan slamming tariffs.
Trump hit Canada with an additional 10 percent tariff and terminated crucial trade talks last week after he was upset by the commercial which aired during the first two games of the baseball World Series.
The tariff commercial used an excerpt of a speech given by Reagan in 1987 to criticize US tariffs during Friday and Saturday's match ups between the Los Angeles Dodgers and Toronto Blue Jays.
Speaking about Trump's spat at the ASEAN summit in Malaysia on Monday, Carney quipped: 'It doesn't pay to be upset. Emotions don't carry you very far.
'In any complicated, high-stakes negotiation, you can get unexpected twists and turns, and you have to keep your cool during those situations.'
Carney said he had not spoken to the president since his blow up, noting it was up to Trump to reach out and mend the relationship.
The 60-second ad, part of a $53.5 million commercial by Ontario Premier Doug Ford pulls from a radio address made by Reagan as he explained why he was placing tariffs on Japanese electronics. In the ad, Reagan explains how tariffs can appear to be beneficial to Americans at first - but looks can be deceiving.
The Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation & Institute has said the late president is being taken out of context.
Ford said he would pull the ad after the weekend in an effort to smooth over tensions

Keep digging. Up goes the tariff again. What a hoser this Carney is eh?
In this particular situation, I would have to agree with Canadian Carney. I agree with most of Mr. Trump’s policy decisions, but not this one. I would expect, over the next few weeks, or months, he will correct or ‘readjust’ his decision.
Right now, it’s not a matter of crucial importance. Too much else is going on in a global sense.
Venezuela, Taiwan, Qatar and Mexico are just a few of the Hot Spots needing attention right now.
Add another 10%.
Canada’s WEF-Controlled Agent Provocateurs Carney and Ford Aim To Take America Down

“Dive deep, Mr. President, Carney and Ford are more than likely acting in concert with your Democrat tormentors.
They are willing to throw Canadian citizens they were elected to serve into the gutter, and the longstanding integrity of their country along with them.”
They can shove their maple syrup.
“I would expect, over the next few weeks, or months, he will correct or ‘readjust’ his decision.”
Trump will readjust his decision only after Carney changes his decision. Canada needs us more than we need them. Carney will fold in the next few weeks.
Trump is simply replicating the NYC lease negotiation process. A tenant, with 2500 employees to move into a space has the upper hand. Anyone can build or buy the space. The command of 2500 employuees is what matters.
Trump brings 330,000,000 greedy consumers f everything from aluminum to zinc. If Canada wants access to those consumers they have to pay. Hence the tariffs. Simple as that.

This guy clearly doesn’t understand the first rule of negotiation: Understand your opponent.
Interesting read. Thanks for posting.
Carney is asking for it....
Carney insults our President and our nation and he defends himself by calling our President “emotional”. What a bunch of crap.
Tarriffs should be based upon sound economics and not temper tantrums.
Strong words from a robot ... I am surprised Karnak recognizes human emotions.
Trump should not give in....they deliberately attacked him.
“”Beijing keeps the panda mask on while the dependency is created, see belt and road; however, as soon as it is in Beijing’s interest to drop the panda mask, Canada will see the dragon face behind it.””

Excellent rundown of the situation. Thanks for posting.
And yes indeed... Commie Carney is about to FAFO what the ‘real cost’ of doing business with his ChiCom comrades will be. I trust that it’s not going to be pretty.
Carney carries zero weight, has zero cards and is a zero. He’s an embarrassment to a country that has enough to be embarrassed about already.
Has Canada reduced its outrageous (over 100%) tariffs on cheese and milk products?
Has Canada tracked its Fentanyl producing factories, raided them, stopped the flow of drugs?
Has Canada increased the number of Troops in the border?
There are many things that Canada can do to meet US demands, but is has done nothing. Who are the childish, emotional and petty actors in this drama?
