Permanent firings of federal government workers are underway as Senate Democrats continue their refusal to vote for a clean continuing resolution that doesn't fund National Public Radio or healthcare for illegal aliens.
"The RIFs have begun," Office of Budget and Management Director Russ Vought posted on X Friday. RIF is short for "reduction in force."
.@PressSec, three days ago: “This conversation about layoffs would not be happening right now if the Democrats did not vote to shut the government down.”

Before the shutdown, Vought explained what Democrats are demanding from Americans and at what cost.
.@WHOMB Director @russvought: "We're on the brink of a government shutdown that is caused entirely by Democrats based on their outrageous demands of about $1.5 trillion... We're not going to be held hostage to these kinds of insane, ridiculous demands..." pic.twitter.com/hk4CMUy5nj— Rapid Response 47 (@RapidResponse47) September 30, 2025
During a meeting with his Cabinet Thursday and the Finnish President, President Donald Trump previewed the cuts as Democrats continue to play games.
.@POTUS on the Democrat Shutdown: "We'll be making cuts that will be permanent — and we're only going to cut Democrat programs, I hate to tell you... That's the way it works. They wanted to do this." pic.twitter.com/vODfykHRRE— Rapid Response 47 (@RapidResponse47) October 9, 2025
.@POTUS on Tuesday: “If this keeps going on, it’ll be substantial — and a lot of those jobs will never come back.”pic.twitter.com/O4Uj4BNo0l https://t.co/Hol5vCkRgP— Rapid Response 47 (@RapidResponse47) October 10, 2025

Smash 'em til they shed tears. And then smash 'em s'more.
You snooze you lose.
I voted for more of this.
The correct framing of the issue is why does the U.S. Senate require 60 votes for anything related to the budget?
If we care about “democracy”, (which the corporate media sometimes harps about IF it can use that term to denigrate Trump and MAGA), then elections must have consequences the minority gets no veto power over appropriations for discretionary spending.
“Yeah, baby...”
In a Civil Society, one would think that the vast preponderance of the peeps would agree on the Common Sense things to do.
The filibuster used to be 67 votes to pass until some magic was performed by Mondale in 1975 to make it 60 votes.
If the vast preponderance don’t agree, do nothing.
Of course we could always go kinetic in the absence of common sense....
Number of Federal Government civilian employees = 2,000,000
Reduction In Force layoffs on Friday = 4,000
Wake me up when the RIFs get to 400,000
Some bean counting bureaucrat can walk in to shop, house, or property and shut it all down with a signature. They did it to my first property to turn in to a parking lot for a park. This began my extreme mistrust and hatred of all things government. I don’t feel the least bit bad democrats are getting fired.
My world is collapsing about me! Whatever will I do?
Make the demoncRATS bleed profusely over their ridiculousness.
Thank you Up Chucky.
Keep holding your ground Chuck. We need more permanent firings.
Schumer Shutdown == Democrat Decreases
I like it. Lets have it remain until, the end of the year, and then on into 2026.
We all did.
With a big dose of Schadenfreude sauce.
Perfectly on par with expectations; pray continue.
One wonders why they can do that without fear.
Cut cut cut.
And then cut some more.
Codify and make permanent the cuts.
Move offices outside of D. C. to other cities and states.
