Abigail Spanberger’s campaign for governor of Virginia took a major hit Wednesday night when she refused—repeatedly—to answer a simple question during the Virginia gubernatorial debate: does she still endorse Jay Jones for attorney general after his violent text messages came to light?
The exchange, moderated by Deanna Allbrittin of WRIC, was terrible for Spanberger as she twisted herself into rhetorical knots to avoid giving a clear answer. Her opponent, Lt. Gov. Winsome Earle-Sears, wasted no time pointing out what everyone watching could see—Spanberger was dodging.
It began when the moderator tried to clarify an earlier non-answer. “Thank you, Ms. Spanberger. I just… I didn’t hear an answer there on the endorsement issue, so I wanted to just make sure,” she said.
“Exactly,” Earle-Sears interjected.
Then came the question that Spanberger never managed to answer: “Will you continue to endorse Jay Jones to be the next attorney general of Virginia? And were you aware of these text messages before they released? You have 30 seconds.”
Spanberger immediately launched into a meandering response that seemed more focused on process than substance. “Uh, in fact, it appears that it was the, uh, those who released the text messages and held them for years, so the public was unaware, who had knowledge of these—”
“When did you know?” Earle-Sears pressed.
“And what did you do about it?” she added, refusing to let Spanberger off the hook.
Spanberger eventually claimed, “I learned of these text messages the day that they came out, and I denounced them as soon as I learned of them," and continued to try to pivot away from the question, insisting that “the voters now have this information, information that was withheld from them—presumably for political reasons.”

Half of them are women...
The ones who work for FedGov won’t care.
I don’t think any stations in the DC area carried the debate, not that it would matter with all the Dim losers here. I don’t know about the rest of the state, but most broadcasters are based in blue cities.
The CCP is her biggest donor as well!!
Her house seat was always winnable for us and we couldn’t take it.
VA media is of course giving it Spanberger. The 19th amendment is going to screw us again.
So???
Yes. Yes, it is.
A certain percentage of Democrats (and not a small number) believe just as Mr. Jones does — that killing their political enemies is justifiable. And an even larger number are ok with the radicals in their party actually doing the dirty work.
the minorities will not care either.
It was amazing how she was being asked to apologize for something that she 100% agrees with.
Republicans naively believe that wanting your opponents’ children to be murdered is a political liability.
It’s not. Spanberger demonstrated this.
Yes, they want us dead. They want our children dead (or forcibly placed in camps). Did the jubilation over Charlie Kirk’s murder not get this point across?
We’d better figure this out quickly.
It's not sex. It's demographics. Trump carried 53% of white women voters.
We should've ran a white guy for the spot. A black Jamaican girlboss isn't really fitting in with the vibe shift.
(And don't blame me. I've already cast my vote for Sears.)
Contrast how the national media fell all over themselves for months about that lady in Georgia (Stacey Abrams) back in 2018 for no other reason than she was black female candidate running for governor. She was obviously incompetent and not qualified for the job.
Now you have an actual competent, intelligent, qualified person running to be governor of a state and...crickets...because she’s “wrong kind of black female.” A Republican.
Just yet another of endless examples of how phony and disingenuous the media in this country is.
As did I. I still am hopeful.
Abrams.... ugly corrupt fat cow.
And back in the day they touted Carolyn Mosely Braun... she couldn’t even remember what college she attended.
Oh yes - they actually convinced her to run for President rather than for her old Senate seat again because they knew should probably blow it even in Illinois...can’t believe she went for it. Her campaign signs just said “Ms. President” on them - didn’t even have her name! Too bad - we may have been spared Obama...then again, the way things went with the financial crisis (at just the right time...) we probably would have ended up with Hillary...
