Yes, I understand the incongruence of California being pro-abortion and anti-declawing.

I grew up in California a long time ago. San Jose was spelled without the accent over the e, because we used the English rather than the Spanish alphabet. When did this change?

I fully understand the incongruence aka hypocricy.
Nevertheless: While some of my furniture is cat-clawed I would consider it cruel and inhumane to make those guys and gals defenseless should they escape into my woodlands.

Since I would not own a cat I will never be a Cat Owner. But if I did Own one I would not like the State telling me what I can or can’t do with My Cat, that I Own.

Declawing cats is very cruel in my opinion. In fact as an animal lover I think it’s horrid.

Quoth:
vigilanteman My father was a veterinarian and described declawing as amputating the finger just above the knuckle. He was particularly against doing this on the front claws and refused such requests. As Dad put it, you might lead a fairly normal life with your toes gone, but not with your fingers clipped off at the knuckle.

Totally agree. You can get sprays for your furniture that actually worked very well for my cats. Deterrent for the furniture and cat nip spray for the scratching pod posts.

While animals are "natural slaves" (Aristotle), and have no rights, as civilized human beings, that means we have a duty to be humane to them. So yes, you are not allowed to torture a dog or cat for entertainment. Cock fights are not legal in most civilized societies, etc. On the other hand, you are allowed to put your own dog down for reasons of your own.
Because declawing is closer to removing fingertip bones than it is to removing fingernails, and frustrates the cats as well causes them pain at the time, I do not like it. However, I do agree that banning declawing may cause more problems than it solves.

Agreed. Declawing a cat is kinda like removing all of a dog’s teeth because you don’t want him to bite anyone.
If it’s such a big concern (cat or dog), better to not to get one. Get a goldfish instead.

I have also seen glue-on rubber tips for kitty’s claws. Good luck applying them, and I am sure they need to be replaced periodically. But it is a thing.
We have cheap furniture, and our current cats are fine with the outdoors and scratching posts. But even when we got one who wasn’t all that trainable, we just put up with a little damage.

Katie Porter, Nancy Pelosi and others are relieved they won’t be declawed.
True story: Katie Porter ——
“In a request for a restraining order from April 2013, Katie Porter’s ex-husband, Matthew Hoffman, alleged that when she became angry, she would “claw and scratch her arms and then say to me ‘Look what you made me do!’”.

Our cats aren’t too bad about scratching the furniture, but one of them claws the molding around doorframes. We’d still never get them declawed, though they wouldn’t last long outdoors with or without claws. Too many coyotes around, and the cats have been indoor cats their entire lives.

Law or no law, cats should never be de-clawed. Ever.
To: lightman
Declawing really hurts, I’d ever do that to a cat.
Daisy is impossible to get into her crate with two adult humans trying to outwit, outsmart and outplay her So I have a vet who comes to the house every two months. $75. for a clawsicure. I get a great manicure for half that price.

What about cropped tails on certain breeds of dog, such as the doberman pincher? Or ears on German Shepherds? Maybe that’s next. I have heard of a basset hound owner who was considering having his dog’s vocal cords worked on, so he would not bark and howl so much. I don’t know if he was just kidding or what.

Daisy cat has a big scatching post I buy at AMZ. Free-standing and very sturdy, lasts for years. She never scratches on furniture.
“SmartCat Ultimate Scratching Post. “
However, she’s a b@tchy ktty and might scratch me if I don’t do iwhat she wants when she wants it.
