Venezuela denounces alleged ‘extremist’ plan to attack shuttered US Embassy complex

CARACAS, Venezuela (AP) — Venezuela warned Monday of an alleged plan by extremists to attack the shuttered U.S. Embassy complex in Caracas with explosives, coming as bilateral tensions simmer over Washington’s military deployment in the Caribbean.

Jorge Rodríguez, head of the National Assembly and of Venezuela’s delegation for dialogue with the U.S., said in a statement that through “three different channels,” the United States had been warned “of a serious threat” from right-wing groups posing as followers of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro. … The embassy, which is currently closed, maintains a staff responsible for security and maintenance of the premises, despite the rupture of diplomatic relations with Maduro’s government in 2019. …

Maduro has described the U.S. naval deployment as a threat to the sovereignty of the South American country. The U.S. government has given no indication that it plans a ground incursion with the more than 4,000 troops stationed in the area.

It’s not clear yet, but what it looks like is Maduro planned an attack on the embassy by his militia or armed civilians, but was warned off by our President. Perhaps Maduro was thinking of fending off an attack on his cartel paymasters by seizing the embassy, but thought better of it.

I always ask my self:

1. What the objective was
and
2. Who would gain most from

....these “attacks”.

This attack would give the US a “Remember the Maine” level justification to gut Maduro and occupy Venezuela.....

Maduro should know that he would stand alone vs the US because the ChiComs and “The Rus” might jawbone for him....but they would not go to war or even “demonstrate” in other theaters for him.

If this was actually planned, the US was fiddling with it either directly or more likely via our pet Venezuelans in exile....

I am all for it, BTW being a hard corps colonizing civilizer and agreeing with Bolivar who said these people would not be fit to rule themselves for centuries.

But what do I know and I do not feel strongly about it. :->
