Fort Worth is doing away with its most prestigious form of recognition, proclamations issued on behalf of the entire City Council, after a proposed proclamation recognizing June as Pride month led to division among the council.
Going forward, the highest form of recognition will be issued solely by the mayor. Council members will still be able to give lesser forms of recognition, called special recognitions, that will be issued by a single council member on behalf of the city.

The Tarrant "Pride" celebrations have withered considerably over the last several years, thankfully. It went from a full-blown parade down Main Street in the Central Business District (downtown) with a week of events several years ago to a four-hour celebration in an obscure, industrial area south of downtown close to the artsy district. It needs to stay there.
NOT action.
Pure performative drama.
I wish I have been on the council
“Why is Pride relegated to just one month?” and vote No.Send them into a virtue signal twin spin
In the large city I am from we have eight members on the city council. Our Mayor before issuing a proclamation that is of such a divisive nature asks council members if they want to put their signature on the document. The members who claim to be Christian will gladly promote the LGBTQP+ by putting their signature on a declaration out of fear that they will tick off the LGBers if they leave their name off. We had one out of eight who left her name off the signing. She wasn’t sure what the ramifications were going to be. As it turned out not a single person noticed that her name was not on the proclamation! Stand your ground against these proclamations! I would think the Mayor could do the same in Fort Worth. Now is the time to show what you stand for!
I think if “gays” want to have “pride month” and get voluntary private sponsors and voluntary private (business) recognition, that is American freedom, but any governmental unit in the U.S. signing on to it is always government acting NOT as everyone’s government but as an active political partisan.
The governmental units have to be political agnostics on political movements or else they quit being governments of all the people.
Fort Worth is full of Evangelical churches and their members (several large mega churches) which are almost certainly repulsed by “pride.” Why repulse a very large plurality, if not a majority, of the city’s population by honoring what they find so repulsive?
Thank you God!!! Texans don’t need dat!!!
Sorry, June is now Charlie Kirk rememberance month.
That will pretty much cover the year--7 months for the deadly sins, plus Black History Month, Women's History Month, and half of September plus half of October as Hispanic Heritage Month.
Gluttony Month should be really good.
“Having a Pride Month is discriminatory.”
Yes, as any such sort of action or recognition by any government unit, it is discriminatory against everyone else.
As a private matter for private individuals, private companies, institutions etc., its covered by freedom of speech; though if I were to be a non-discriminating private enterprise, I still wouldn’t do it. I would not imply my employees all had to sign onto the idea, anymore than I would imply they should all attend my church. A private company wanting to respect the freedom of belief of their employees shouldn’t do it. But, not being government, freedom of speech applies to employers as much as individuals.
Will November (Thanksgiving) and December (Christmas parties and New Year’s Eve parties) fight over the Gluttony Month title?
The Prestigious Butt Forker Award. Can’t get more prestigious than that.
Thank you God!!! Texans don’t need dat!!!
So prior to this decision, a “unanimous” recognition could be issued without unanimous support on the city council?
