Senate Minority Leader Charles E. Schumer is on the hot seat as Republicans try to portray him as the face of the government shutdown and congressional Democrats expect him to deliver something that can be sold as a victory.
The New York Democrat has broad support from his caucus and House Democrats for his moves thus far, but he is under pressure not to let the shutdown end without a significant win for his side.
Mr. Schumer’s standing in the party took a hit after he declined to use a government funding deadline in March to oppose the Trump administration’s reshaping of the federal government, which Democrats warned undermined democracy.
This time, Mr. Schumer opted to fight.
“A lot of people wondered whether we would be bullied again, and we have not been,” said Sen. Christopher Murphy, Connecticut Democrat. “So I think Sen. Schumer understands the gravity of this moment.”
What a win looks like varies among Democratic lawmakers, but their main unifying goal is to extend the party’s pandemic emergency expansion of Obamacare subsidies set to expire this year.

Good luck with that. The GOP doesn’t mind shutting down gov’t especially when they can blame democrats.
They played the wrong side of this one.
The left defunded police. Under prosecuted. Now Trump has to clean up crime.
The left allowed millions of illegals to flood in. Now they shut down the government because same illegals they allowed in, hospitals can’t afford to care for them without financial aid.
They caused all of it.
And during a gov’t shutdown Trump gets to say fund the police 100% and defund the welfare of illegals completely.

It looks like for the first time the rats are going to be blamed for the shutdown unless the GOPe squishes find a way to blow it.

Whatever this piece is about…Schumer can give his best impression of the wicked with, whom New Yorkers are infatuated with since Wicked and its movie spinoff, but he’s nothing more than a cartoon character in Popeye, getting up from his hammock, shooting his house down in order to fail at killing a fly

The Senate Dems are acting reflexively at the behest of their radical base but without a larger strategy. This will not end well for the Dems if the Senate GOP stays loyal to their colleagues and Trump.
