Race to Replace Gavin Newsom Continues Thin as Longtime Calif. Legislator Exits

Race to replace Gavin Newsom continues to thin as longtime Calif. legislator exits

The California governor’s race is continuing to slim down. Toni Atkins, the first openly gay president pro tempore of the California State Senate, and a longtime legislator, became the latest candidate to drop out of the race this week, citing polling data.

“It’s with such a heavy heart that I’m stepping aside today as a candidate for governor. Despite the strong support we’ve received and all we’ve achieved, there is simply no viable path forward to victory,” Atkins said in a statement Monday.

She continued, “With Donald Trump and his allies threatening everything we’ve worked for — gutting health care, cratering our economy, and stripping away fundamental rights and freedoms — we’ve got to make sure California has a Democratic governor leading the fight, and that means uniting as Democrats.”

With eight months to go until the primary election, the race to replace Gov. Gavin Newsom still lacks a clear front-runner.

Atkins announced her run for governor in January 2024, and in the months after, a flurry of candidates put their names in the hat. Even as the race crowded to, at one point, eight viable Democrats, none of the candidates made any real strides as donors and supporters waited for Kamala Harris to decide whether she would run. Harris finally announced at the end of July that she would not enter the race.

Why don't they try an Executive, you know, to lead the Executive branch? Why a groveling legislator? They are quite whorish by nature.

Try Elon. He can't be bought.

He is no longer a California resident. Plus the left will probably torch, or sabotage Tesla dealerships or any other of his endeavours.
Best for him to work undercover, ferreting out the loser leftists. Or identifying fraudulent acquisition of government money.

As if DemocRATs ever cared about fundamental rights and freedoms.

Are there no non-DemocRATs running for governor? I'm afraid that after years of DemocRAT rule, CA is becoming a cesspool.

I guess I have a different definition of “strong support”

There was only room for one homely over weight leftist Democrat in the race and Husband beating Katie Porter is it.
