After more than 45 years of living in merry old England, I called a halt some time ago and chose the Big Bagel as my main residence. Alas, I left many friends behind, very good friends who ask me what New York has to offer that London does not. Well, I’ll only tell you, my Chronicles readers, because it would seem like rubbing it in if I published this in an English mag.
British phlegm, humor, self-deprecation, and good manners are now a thing of the past in that nation’s capital. London no longer has a majority white population, but is a mixed-race city in which Islam is the religion of the fastest-growing minority.
London and some other major British cities now have Muslim mayors, who all favor woke policing. That means they turn a blind eye when people of color demonstrate illegally, but apply the full force of the law against whites for lesser offenses.
One such lesser crime is writing the wrong thing online. According to The Times of London, police make bout 12,000 arrests per year for offensive social media posts, or more than 30 arrests per day. The most egregious of these was the arrest and sentencing to 31 months in prison of Lucy Connolly, a mother who had already lost her firstborn son, a toddler, due to the negligence of hospital officials.
Reacting to reports of an African murderer of three white toddlers during a school picnic in Southport, England, she tweeted for “mass deportation now” and said she couldn’t care less if someone burned down all the hotels housing illegal immigrants.
She almost immediately took down her post with apologies, yet, as I write, she’s in prison for “inciting race hate.” If this is justice, I’m Stormy Daniels.
Things are upside down in Britain, which was once known for orderliness and civility. When I first moved there, bus conductors, taxi drivers, salespeople, and policemen were good-tempered and had a sense of humor. Cops did not carry guns, the justice system punished shoplifters with incarceration, and murderers with hanging.
Today, muggers and thieves are released by woke judges while journalists who made George Floyd their top priority in 2020 are now largely silent when migrants commit crimes. The police are focused on the people protesting outside hotels housing young men who have broken into the country illegally. The latest figures are something like 32,000 of these male “asylum seekers” in 210 hotels, with all expenses paid by the government (i.e., the taxpayers).
The establishment appears far more interested in the human rights of criminals and illegal immigrants than its citizens. Quality of life in modern Britain has nosedived as the population increased due to millions of immigrants overwhelming the island nation.
The cultural costs of German Chancellor Angela Merkel’s ridiculous 2015 decision to invite millions of migrants from Syria and elsewhere into the EU have turned countries like France, Germany, and Britain into hotbeds of resentment.
Daily crimes committed by mostly young African and Arab asylum seekers are rarely reported by the media. They break into houses regularly and snatch mobile phones on the streets. A few years ago, a young Arab man attacked my daughter on the streets of London and tore off her necklace, without anyone coming to help. (She is now happily married and living more safely in Vienna.)
In Britain, one is not legally permitted to use violence to defend one’s property. If a very old lady shoots a burglar inside her house, she could very well finish her days in jail.
But the real reason I no longer wish to live in England is that it’s now a socialist country, and has been one since the fall of the great Margaret Thatcher. The Tories in power since the Tony Blair days were Tories in name only. They gave us high taxes and woke politics, only to be replaced by Labour, which preached all of the above and more.
My old buddy and colleague Boris Johnson was the worst Tory of them all. He opened the borders to cheap migrant labor, and now the island is sinking under their weight. The net-zero climate change goals he set have been a disaster, and yet Boris has the gall to talk about running for office again.
So, dear reader, understand this about modern Britain: The law, the civil service, the National Health System, the education system, and the BBC are all controlled by the left. The “takers” in Britain outweigh the “makers,” as more and more Brits choose to stay home, watch the telly, and collect unemployment benefits. There are more than 3 million unemployed and unemployment claims are up 40 percent over the last year in parts of the UK.
Among the unemployed are 639,000 university graduates, many going straight from campus to the dole. And while all this is going on, politicians daily bestow new rights and forbid new crimes, all to appeal to one group or to punish another. It is a convenient way of pursuing one’s political ends, but it doesn’t suit me one bit. So long, London, it was really, really fun knowing you.

From what I heard a long time ago....German politicians feeling the collective racial guilt of WW2 vowed to be kinder. Plus they wanted cheap labor. So they imported anyone who could fly in...being docile while Hitler took over is no reason to overcompensate. So now, they are losing their history to the invading hordes...

I don't know what the writer is smoking but Vienna is the worst Muslim-inundated city in all Europe right now. Maybe she married one and is safely confined to her house most of the time and wears a burka outside it.
