Trump and Xi are expected to finalize a long-sought TikTok deal today

"President Donald Trump and China’s leader Xi Jinping joined a call Friday morning to finalize a deal that would sell most of TikTok’s US assets to American investors. The deal, if reached, would conclude a yearslong effort that began during Trump’s first term and became a key factor in broader negotiations between the United States and China in recent months.

Neither side has disclosed terms of the agreement, because it has not been finalized. But sources familiar with the framework said the proposal would involve investments from a number of US-based venture capital firms, private equity funds and tech companies. Among the investors, who would hold the majority stake in the company, are Oracle, Andreessen Horowitz and Silver Lake, the sources said. Chinese investors would own the remaining 20% of the company.

The law gives the president broad discretion on how to enforce the ban, and Trump has pushed back the enforcement date four times – most recently to mid-December. But critics have said Trump’s extensions thwarted the will of Congress.

Trump toward the end of his first term had advocated for banning TikTok — a policy he never got passed but which Biden eventually supported and signed into law. But Trump’s opinion eventually changed after he viewed the social media app as contributing to his election victory in 2024.

TikTok boasts around 170 million US users, many of them young people – a contingent that offered significantly more support to the Republican presidential candidate in the 2024 election than that segment of the population has in recent years. Trump has repeatedly said a deal is close, but no breakthrough emerged until Monday."

I have virtually zero social media, no fecebook, instagram, etc.

The only benefit I see for saving tik tok is it may reward
President Trump with a few more young voters.

There are quite a few people on our side that uses that app. And I’m leaving the Democrat Party, and I was blown away how many videos there were.

It may be anecdotal but I'm seeing those videos too.

It's just a guess but I can easily see a scenario where the Republicans will gain 30+ seats in the House during the midterms.

Ordinary Democrats and independent voters are repulsed by the far-left antics.

This Tik Tok deal is a terrible idea and it seems to be against the law. No way of seeing this then other then a flip flop by president Trump. I hope he goes back to his original position. Ban the damn thing.

I read on TikTok it’s a done deal. USA users will have to download a new app with US algorithms, and user permissions.

I really hate this as I follow who I damn well please on TikTok, and I don’t need President Trump or Larry Ellison censoring my choices.

TicTok is basically spyware on your phone. He sends everything back to China.

It’s funny Chicoms assured us TikTok was totally independent of Chicoms.

Why would Xi be involved in a deal regarding a non-Chinese totally independent company?

Til Tok executives, who for sure aren’t chicoms, assured Congress of this in testimony at hearings.
