GENEVA, Sept 1 (Reuters) - The International Labour Organization is assessing the impact of a $107 million funding cut proposed by the Trump administration to the Geneva-based U.N. agency, according to an internal message reviewed by Reuters.
Staff at the ILO, which promotes international labour rights, told Reuters there are fears of further job cuts as the U.S., which contributes 22% of the ILO's regular budget, seeks to row back on funding.
President Donald Trump has moved to unilaterally cancel $4.9 billion in foreign aid authorised by Congress for a number of international programmes, including a $107 million cut to the ILO, a White House statement said on Friday.
In the internal note sent to staff, ILO Director-General Gilbert F. Houngbo said he lacks "full clarity" on the cut's implications. The ILO told Reuters that it is in contact with the U.S. administration to seek more detail.
Houngbo told staff that the U.S., the agency's largest donor, had yet to pay its 2024 and 2025 dues.
"Specifically, we are seeking to understand if this reduction applies to the ILO's assessed contributions for 2025, the entire 2024/25 biennium, or future contributions," the memo added.

The question should always be “are we getting value for our money?”
With respect to the UN, the answer is well known.
If other countries can’t step up to fill the gap, then this organization isn’t worth saving.
Look at their numbers. They have lots of other people’s money.
Any organization that can’t spell Labor is inherently suspect.
We’re funding a U.N. NGO that promotes unionization in foreign countries? WTH?
I was not even aware of this. Subsidizing unions with taxpayer $$. Disgraceful. Amazing how much dirt Trump Admin has dug up on these rapscallions.
“. . . seeks to row back on funding.”

I’m all for ROWING back on funding!
ILO Director-General Gilbert F. Houngbo...
A relative of Ming the Merciless?
Labor movement is divided.
On one side rich, greedy labor bosses, who mostly care about getting enough members so they get fat paycheck!
They like Dems, as Dems helping labor mean helping the labor organizers. And this ILO doing nothing, but helping these organizers.
On the other side, rank and file workers, who mostly worry about their job going abroad or their job being filled by cheap imported worker. Trump voters! They d care about ILO.
No mon, no fun
Your son
To bad, so sad
Your dad
I can’t get a REAL job!?!?!
Why would we fund it at all?
The US is paying interest on $35 trillion debt. We should not be giving money to anyone until that debt is paid off. Hard-working Americans do not want a large proportion of their tax money going to paying interest on a debt. I wish Trump would stop saying how rich we are when we are actually in debt.
Should people be considered rich if they live a lavish lifestyle but continue to open new credit cards which they run up to the max and pay interest only every month? I think not. That is the USA government.
Geneva-based U.N. agency!!!!!
F*&K OFF, let someone else support your BS.
