Mexico’s President Struggles to Escape Trump’s Growing Demands

After months of negotiation and concessions, President Claudia Sheinbaum of Mexico has found herself in a cycle of pressure from the White House.

As much as any other world leader, Claudia Sheinbaum has gained the reputation of a Trump whisperer.

Over and over, the Mexican president has entered tense negotiations with President Trump and — to the surprise of many — exited with praise.

“I like her very much,” Mr. Trump said in the Oval Office in February. “I did this as an accommodation, and out of respect for, President Sheinbaum,” he said after pausing tariffs against Mexico in March.

But the honeymoon seems to be ending.

Over the past several months, Mr. Trump has amped up his intense pressure campaign on Mexico with a multipronged offensive that has squeezed Ms. Sheinbaum, put her on the defensive and left her with few good options to react.

The United States has deployed nearly 10,000 troops at the Mexican border; accused Mexican banks of money laundering; threatened layers of devastating tariffs; revoked the visas of certain Mexican politicians; and declared several Mexican drug cartels terrorist organizations.

At each step, Ms. Sheinbaum has grit her teeth and stressed that there was a red line Mr. Trump must not cross: infringing on Mexico’s sovereignty, particularly with unilateral military action.

Then, news broke this month that Mr. Trump had secretly directed the Pentagon to explore military action against cartels.

“There is not going to be an invasion,” Ms. Sheinbaum responded. “That is ruled out.”

Four days later, her government delivered more of what U.S. officials...

“Mr. President.” Mr. President, indeed. And this from the New York Times. They have no sense of propriety or journalistic skills. Mr. President.

Good to know the Mexican Presidente decides what our military will do.

She and her companeros already invaded this country, and demand to be treated as superiors. Mexican Mayors, Mexican Senators, Mexican Congressmen, city councilmen...all posing as “Americans”. But they are merely an occupation force.

Trump should stop getting bottled up by this non-Mexican poser who is obviously a front woman for massive money. She’s there to protect Los Cartelistas ferociously, and more importantly, her power structure in this country. Anyone seen a White Anglo-Saxon Protestant in charge of a town in Mexico? But they got lots of their people here telling us what to do.

It’s not their country and they don’t have a right to cosplay as us.

Mexico has the resources to make it a free and safe country.
I grew up with illegals in SO. Cal. I lived in a city where I was a minority. A white kid in a Mexican neighborhood.
So I can make these observations;
1. Mexicans are VERY family oriented. They are not trained to be loners.
2. Most everyone from central and south America are very good people. I had worked in a liquor store there so I saw it all! I used to step over the drunks on their payday nights as I went home.
3. They are stupid proud! Pride is #7 of the seven deadly sins.

So Mexico will not get rid of cartels because they are family.
And pride will not allow them to allow an outsider to fix their problem.

There are lots of American products in Mexican stores.

There’s tens of billion$ at stake.

The Mexican government might seize US factories in Mexico as it did US owned oil fields.

Putin can’t stop drones from whacking his oil refineries, why should we expect Mexico to be able to stop drug transfers by drone?
