Well, if you needed more examples of the incompetence of The Walt Disney Company leadership, it just gave us yet another spectacular one.
On Thursday, Variety reported that sources say that Disney Studios is actively soliciting ideas and pitches from creatives that it hopes will lead to new movies that appeal to younger men. Specifically, males aged 13-28. That's not a misprint; a movie studio is trying desperately to figure out stories and ideas that might appeal to teenage guys and young male adults.

I didn’t care for the gay jokes in Deadpool and Wolverine.
For over a decade, Disney cartoons and live content have featured brave girl bosses setting out on adventures to find the strength they knew was inside them all along. Male characters were evil, incompetent or, at best, ancillary to the true heroes they ‘know’ every girl dreams of being. Maybe they are starting to realize that stories of heroic and adventurous boys/men appeal to the fantasies of both boys and girls.
All these companies keep making the same mistake. They alienate the audience/customers they have in order to chase after the ones they don’t have. But, those other folks weren’t interested in your product in the first place, and they won’t become interested just because you pander to them.
FD. And that ain’t for Fire Department. NUF said.
Disney trashed the Star Wars franchise, now they’re currently trashing the Alien franchise. I cannot think of two franchises that Disney currently owns that had a mostly male fan base.
I didn’t bother with most of the Star Wars show because I’m not going to pay for Disney Plus, and because from what little bit I’ve seen, the shows were garbage. I picked up the first season of Andor after viewing some of the Critical Drinker’s commentary on it. Andor was pretty good, not without some flaws, but overall pretty damn good. I’m currently waiting to order season two when it drops on blue ray. The Drinker was right, we’ll never see Star Wars that good again.
Alien. Alien: Earth, and last year’s Alien: Romulus had a few good ideas. After last year’s viewing of the film, and seeing some of the promotional material for the show: Memberberry crumble baked in a dumpster fire. Again, I agree with the Drinker, it’s a show written by children.
So, Disney must produce films the girls want to see but ones that boys can stomach or at least find some part with which to identify. Bill girls want to see does not mean depicting girls in charge because they are physically stronger, but it does mean that the action the boys identify with is somehow inspired by the girl, or is about the girl. But that merely describes the storyline architecture on which the formula hangs:
The formula remains as it always was for the century since Hollywood started: boy meets girl; boy loses girl; boy gets girl back.
I won’t return to Disney until I see white male characters return to headline a movie or hero.
Then, with a new board and management, it could be reintroduced to the world with a new IPO and a freshly restored image.
It’s too bad that they haven’t gone bankrupt yet.
I’ve got it! The thing to do would be to buy the Star Wars franchise. Guys absolutely LOVE scifi. That story in particular has a bunch of strong male leads, characters who are archetypes of the hero, the mentor, etc. It has great villains. It has everything! Just buy that and crank out tons of content. Just make sure you keep the whole tranny crowd and the man hating Feminazis away from it and you’ll make a fortune!
Cartoons are aimed at the younger crowd, rather than date night, and the tickets are bought by parents. I am certain that most fathers would rather take their sons (and daughters, for that matter) to shows that tell of adventurous boys becoming heroes rather than trite girl boss offerings.
Don’t forget about Marvel as well.
