President Trump declared war on renewable energy Tuesday, vowing the federal government will block new wind and solar projects while electricity bills across America skyrocket at twice the rate of inflation.
“Any State that has built and relied on WINDMILLS and SOLAR for power are seeing RECORD BREAKING INCREASES IN ELECTRICITY AND ENERGY COSTS. THE SCAM OF THE CENTURY!” Trump wrote in a Truth Social post.
“We will not approve wind or farmer destroying Solar. The days of stupidity are over in the USA!!! MAGA.”
The fiery proclamation comes as American households face brutal electricity price hikes.
So far this year, electricity prices have risen between 5% and 9% — with some states and metro areas facing even higher increases.
Maine residents saw bills explode 36.3%, while Connecticut ratepayers absorbed an 18.4% spike and Utah families faced a 15.2% increase.
The Energy Information Administration forecasts electricity prices will climb 13% from 2022 to 2025 — the fastest pace in decades.
The average American household’s annual bill is expected to rise by about $219 in 2025 versus 2022, to around $1,900 a year.
Surging electricity demand from AI and data centers is a key driver behind soaring bills, along with aging grid infrastructure that utilities are modernizing and passing the costs to consumers.
Rising natural gas prices — used for power generation — add more upward pressure on rates.
Trump’s renewable energy crackdown has already delivered devastating blows to the industry.
On July 4, he signed into law the “One Big Beautiful Bill” that kills the popular 30% federal solar tax credit for homeowners.
The newly enacted law gives Americans just months to install residential solar systems before losing thousands in tax breaks.

Renewable? How do you renew the sun?
This is a deep deep hole that will take some time to dig out of and will cost all of us a lot of money to replace the power plants that have been destroyed and to replace the wind and solar power that will soon be in ruins without subsidies.
Something like 20% of our power comes from renewables that will have to be maintained or replaced. Without the subsidies I’m betting on replacement. After that the landscape will be littered with the junk of wind and solar abandoned by bankrupt tax break seekers. Left for someone to clean-up. It will be another mess. Utopian dreams, the gift that just keeps on giving.
But, that's just me.
‘Days of stupidity are over’
Democrats still haven’t got the message.
“The newly enacted law gives Americans just months to install residential solar systems before losing thousands in tax breaks.”
Watch prices for solar panels fall like a rock. I would like to install about 12 Kw to defray the rising cost of electricity. Mostly to forestall bill shock because the payout may not make sense, it surely does not if you hire it installed at today’s prices.
This tulip craze too shall pass.
Why BAN them??
Why not just eliminate all Gov subsidies?
I’d be perfectly happy seeing brand new solar fields or windmills on the drive up to and around shiny new nuke plants.
This is aimed at Obama-style stupidity (and skimming) projects like Solyndra. Smaller, niche roll-outs will and should continue.
Solar roofs don’t destroy cropland.
The feds simply must fast-track the building of new electrical power stations that are nukes. Shift some of that ‘green subsidy’ to nuke subsidies ...
I spent last weekend in Davis, West VA. It was a place in WV’s High Country. Great skiing, I guess.
Coming back north, we passed a high ridge with many windmills on it. Apparently, this was a “free energy” location.
But I counted: one windmill was turning slowly, 24 were dead still.
Please WVa, stick to coal for your energy. Coal is free and renewable for you.
Then why are you being stupid, Mr President?
Cheap abundant energy is the cornerstone of any leading and prosperous nation. Blocking ANY energy source is stupid. Replacing ANY existing energy source with another is stupid.
If you REALLY want to avoid being stupid, then stick with your budget-cutting impulses, and stop giving handouts to EVERY energy generation source... and this includes corn/ethanol. We the People save many billions to help reduce the debt, the energy sources are left to compete on an even playing field, and basic economics will keep those prices low since the number of competing sources is not low.
Now you're ideologically consistent, and helping to MAGA.
There are many reasons why turbines stop spinning... low winds, maintenance, high winds, testing, etc.
Please WVa, stick to coal for your energy. Coal is free and renewable for you.
FREE? It most certainly isn't free, lol. They pay a LOT to the landowners, they pay a LOT to the miners and machine operators, they pay a LOT for transportation of those millions of tons of rocks, they pay a LOT for the maintenance and operation of the equipment and vehicles, etc.
We need more of every energy source, and we need to stop handing out huge amounts of taxpayer cash and incentives to one of the most lucrative and profitable sectors of the economy.
Why ban? Just eliminate subsidies and let the market decide.
What also has to be done is remove the ban on coal and gas plants that some states have implemented.
Let all of the above compete on an even field.
Yeah, I got one of those and don’t worry about the electric bill.
I have bankruptcy clients who surrender solar panel installations in their bankruptcy proceedings. They walk away from the debt associated with the installation. They surrender the physical assets (panels, inverters, etc.). But to whom?
The answer is that no one (manufacturer, installer, financing firm) wants the panels back, even when they are 1-2 years old. A client in FL needed to have the underlying roof replaced due to storm damage, and that would necessitate removing and possibly reinstalling the solar panels. While the solar equipment was off the roof (neatly stacked in her garage), she decided to file Chapter 7 and surrender the solar. It was less than 2 years old and was financed over a 25-year term. We were unable to get anyone in the ostensible chain of responsibility to come and pick up the equipment. It was already disconnected, disassembled, neatly stacked, and organized.
What this tells you is that there is no value in this stuff to anyone in the supply chain for residential solar once the tax-driven transaction has been completed.
What they don’t tell you is solar panels have to be washed frequently to remove the dirt and dust, which reduces their solar intake. A big problem in areas with limited water supply-like Arizona
It reminds me of another tax incentive, panic driven, ill-conceived tulip craze... Coal Bed Methane. Without the tax incentives it had just about zero chance of ever making money. It took years to pump the water off most coal before the methane ever began to be liberated from the cleat system.
I expect windmills are much the same. We will see forests of tattered blades across the fruited plain.
“Coal is free and renewable for you.”
.
The US has 200 years of coal to mine.
(Excepting the most valuable coal, which Slick Willie locked up in the National Monument program in exchange for campaign dollars from Indonesia).
